- Comment on First highway segment in U.S. wirelessly charges electric heavy-duty truck while driving 3 days ago:
Seems like a lot of energy will be lost when transmitting the energy wirelessly. How about we put up some wires that can deliver the energy more efficiently. After that, we can switch out the rubber tyres on asphalt for steel wheels on steel rails, such that we improve the energy efficiency further. This way, we can transport so much more stuff at a fraction of the cost.
- Comment on When a video codec wins an Emmy | The Mozilla Blog 2 weeks ago:
I mean, you generally decode an asset several magnitudes more often than encoding it, and decoding basically must happen real-time, while encoding can most often happen ahead-of-time. Having encodes be a bit on the slower side if it gains you higher compression is arguably worth it.

A lot of Balatro, lol. I wish it was on mobile, though…
You’re in luck - it’s fully possible to get Balatro to run on mobile: github.com/blake502/balatro-mobile-maker
It runs quite well and is a very good fit for playing on mobile. The only downside I know is that it drains your battery like mad.

What level of Early Access would you call this? On a scale of “dev needs more money before the proper launch” to “basically done already and early access as a form of marketing”.
- Comment on Swiss hydrogen-powered train sets 1741-mile record for nonstop travel 1 year ago:
I honestly think this is just cheaping out, and I bet electrification will pay off on a long enough horizon.
Fwiw, I think basically all of Sweden where I live is electrified - 80% of the rails, with the 20% principally being a freight line in the far north used for the purposes of transporting ore from the mines.
- Comment on Swiss hydrogen-powered train sets 1741-mile record for nonstop travel 1 year ago:
Save the hydrogen for better suited use-cases - trains are easily electrified and should be running on catenaries.
