Absolutely critical feature. I’m spoiled and cannot live without haptics.

I am one of those that fell for the falacy of “gaming laptops” because I have to travel a lot for work, and need my dose of gaming to stay sane. As such, I usually played on console when at home, work on a non-gaming PC, and tried to game on a laptop while away.
I found that, while I was able to somewhat play a bit while on the ground, those laptops are huge power suckers. This lead to any flight over 2 hours leaving me at the expense of the airline’s ad-ridden and ridiculously limited “entertainment” (those that provide it and IF they provided it). Never mind how freaking hot they get.
The deck has saved my life. I can carry a powerful laptop that will give me 8+ hours of battery for my in-flight media consumption and watch whatever the he’ll I want without being exposed to ads and the pilot interrupting my enjoyment, and I can play anything available offline on my deck at any point.
Unfortunately I still have a “gaming” system76 laptop that is only 2 years old, this is my second (and last) “gaming” laptop. My next travel companion will not have, nor need, dedicated GPU, because the deck covers that itch.

You cannot compare these. While it is true that the switch sold 13 million+ units it’s first year, these are worldwide sales, while the Steam deck started (and still is) only in a few select markets, and started at a bit over 1 million units sold the first year. That’s what, 8% compared to the Switch’s first year? The deck was not being sold (at least not directly) in over 92% of the countries where the Switch was, so it seems like they are on par, or at least very close, by region.
Also consider that the switch is more targeted at kids, while the deck is targeted at more mature players.

Exactly my thoughs.

That’s something that could have even saved them money on R&D for the Xbox itself, but there’s no way in hell they would allow you to use your gaming console as a desktop.
It is fascinating how they are willing to waste a shitload of money just to lock users into an ecosystem. Imagine how easy it would be to just run Windows on the Xbox and allow to boot into desktop or game mode as needed. That would have been a huge selling point against Playstation, but “make life better for your users” will never be part of MS’s philosophy.

Just add 2 more hours of gameplay per day. You’re fine.

Count me in that group. Mostly single player games that I can pause at a moments notice when my wife wants something. 🤣🤣

Don’t downvote his comments. Way I see it, he’s passionate about Microsoft. That’s cool. I mean, wrong, but it’s cool he defends his position.
No amount of links or data are going to change his mind.
He even brought out the card of “I know the windows kernel and you don’t”. That’s where you know he’s going to keep bringing stuff out of nowhere to try to push his mind and make it valid.
I do not know any kernel, but as a user, that has been on and off windows and Linux for over 20 years, at pretty much all use cases, I can confidently say that Windows is a solid shit show that knows how to market itself and grab their industry by the balls. Nothing else.
- Comment on Valve has little to worry about as new Steam Deck rival arrives 5 weeks ago:
The kernel is one of the main issues. Nobody can touch that hot mess other than Microsoft, and they do a crappy job at that. And you’re the one that brought up the bloatware, and said it can be fully disabled (which isn’t true). As for government use, read a bit and see how many governments are moving away from Windows, and many more that already have. Dude, nobody cares if you want to use Windows, have at it, but there’s no need for you to try to push that crap on some of us that have already been there and now know better. Enjoy Cortana, or copilot or whatever they are calling that dumb shit these days.

You can start by looking at your downvotes, and I didn’t downvote even one of your comments.
Then, there’s plenty out there, but I will humor you with 1 to get you started:

Now, if you like Windows, that’s fine, nobody really cares, but that doesn’t make Windows good in any way, shape or form.

I run Bazzite on my laptop, and have no complains other than getting cunfused sometimes on the terminal, but that’s on me for forgetting it’s not Fedora per se.

Windows IS resource hungry. No matter what hardware you run your OS on, any Linux Distro will leave Windows in the dust when managing resources, guaranteed.
- Comment on Valve has little to worry about as new Steam Deck rival arrives 5 weeks ago:
Ubuntu is THE distro that fucks it all up regularly. Most other distros have little to no bloatware.

- Comment on Stadia controller not reconnecting 3 months ago:
This does not happen to me often (I have 3 Stadia controllers), but when it does, I just flip BT off and on, and then it works. I’ve seen that it’s more likely to happen when I switch controllers (long gaming sessions and needing to charge), but it could also just be a coincidence.

I has it for 2 weeks and the last update I did was on Saturday night, and the issues remained, so I just went back to SteamOS. Of course, being the Linux kangaroo that I am, I’ll certainly take it for a spin again in about a month or 2
- Comment on SteamGridDB Decky Plugin Gets New Update to Apply Official Icons and Fix Bugs 3 months ago:
Nothing that would break gaming. Having to forget and pair again my controllers is the most annoying one. Also, when waking up from sleep, it would not accept the HDMI display (LG TV), and I had to reboot. Also, one decky plugin I regularly use (BT Wake Control) crashes before even starting. Outside these issues, everything else (that I use) works just fine.

This is great news. Thanks for sharing. The timing is spot on, since I’m going back to SteamOS from a ride on Bazzite that could have gone better.
- Comment on Bazzite as an alternative to SteamOS? 3 months ago:
I feel you. I’m currently reinstalling SteamOS for those exact reasons. Don’t get me wrong, I love Bazzite (because I’m a huge Fedora fan), but I’ll always prioritize “it works” before anything else 😁
