There is a cheater problem and the game is still popular, not sure how much kernel anticheat will help though.
8 years after launch of game. It’s never too late to ruin the fun for players. -EA
I would rather click all of the download buttons I could find on ad-ridden sites before I let EA have kernel level access to my computer or deck.
BattleBit Remastered can help scratch the BF itch. It’s not the same, but it’s not EA.
Love that they’re making this change after CrowdStrike
Such a good call, lol.
Just put it on consoles where there is no expectation of ownership over the OS, where it’s expected to be an appliance.
Shit like this has no place in PC gaming.
That’s exactly why consoles are exploitative anti-consumer trash that ought to be cracked down on by the FTC, though.
Oh I definitely agree. I also should be able to play games on Steam that I have previously purchased on PS5 without paying for it again.
But if the game devs are gonna push kernel level shit, they might as well have a console-like experience that exists independently of a user’s OS.
Oh well. I guess this is a sign that I need to quit BF1.
I have already achieved everything I needed to achieve. Reached level 150, completed all the assignments, unlocked the Peacemaker. Most of that on Linux. I was only just playing for fun at this point.
And god forbid we play games for fun…
For big map vehicle and infantry shooters with vehicles that run decent on the Steam Deck I recommend
Easy Red 2 store.steampowered.com/app/1324780/Easy_Red_2/
Operation Harsh Doorstop …steampowered.com/…/Operation_Harsh_Doorstop/
Halo Infinite also plays well on the Steam Deck, though I wish performance was better and it sometimes just crashes.

Steam needs to offer refunds when a game does this - at the publisher’s expense. They should put it right into their ToS for game publishers that want to sell on the platform.

Worse for us who bought the game on Origin before they even came to Steam…

Absolutely, you can’t just change the terms of the purchase years after it was purchased.

You honestly might still be able to get one. Put in the request and state that you literally cant play the game anymore because of the change
