Steam Deck is just a computer. You can install any other Linux distro. Or Windows, if you are into that.

That’s very unfortunate. However, I’d like mention a few things about attempting a self-repair:
- You don’t need a heat gun to disassemble it. A simple Philips head screwdriver will do.
- Batteries are dangerous regardless of their charge. You should be careful handling them even when they are fully discharged.

While SteamOS is open-source and everyone can build one for themselves, it is only officially supported on Steam Deck. They promised to release a generic version of it targeting more devices in the past, and this post hints that that day is closer.
