女性キャラの“あざとさ”は、同じ女性が見たほうが気付きやすく、男の人だと「何が違うの?」となる部分でも見抜けるんです。ディアナ警察はみんな、女性スタッフだったはずです。(笑)
I had absolutely no idea what he was talking about until I dug into the term あざとさ. I’m not qualified to tell anyone about it, but my summarized understanding is that it’s using charisma and/or vulnerability in a manipulative way, but not necessarily to control or cause harm. The idea is to get other people to feel positively about you, and whether you abuse that to farm unreturned favors is another story. It’s something children do instinctively, so it makes sense it’s an element they’d focus on in portraying a small child.
Here is one of the pages where I read about it:

- Comment on YouTube now lets you turn off Shorts 2 months ago:
I don’t think it’s necessary for anyone, though I understand you probably mean they feel it is. They’ve done at least one study I read which showed that being fed content actually makes you stupid in the immediate short-term (long-term was outside the scope of the study). Consuming the same content by selecting which ones you want to see caused no problems. It’s the removal of agency that’s thought to be the problem, training your brain to be passive.
- Comment on YouTube now lets you turn off Shorts 2 months ago:
Why don’t they just make them behave like normal videos? The problem with shorts is the repeating and the endless scrolling (and the ever-present prompt to scroll). A lot of perfectly useful/entertaining content has been recommended to me by the static presentation on the home screen.
- Comment on OpenAI's ChatGPT ads will allegedly prioritize sponsored content in answers 5 months ago:
ChatGPT already shills products; it just does so semi-randomly and usually at the behest of the user. I think this could actually push users away if it prioritizes paid content over tailoring itself to the user, which would be a weirdly positive outcome.
To make a simplistic example, take someone who’s into aluminum foil to block mind control waves. If ChatGPT won’t shut the fuck up about Reynolds Wrap and links to where you can buy Reynolds Wrap, that might be a tipping point that gets them to close the app. Which won’t make them all better, but at least they wouldn’t be using AI to get worse.
ChatGPT might finally be made incapable of discussing harmful topics if advertisers don’t want negative associations, giving Sam Altman the monetary incentive he needs to pretend he gives a shit about human lives.
- Comment on Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 won game of the year, just released a large free DLC, and is now Steam Deck Verified 6 months ago:
It’s an RPG more in the JRPG sense, so it’s not like Baldur’s Gate or Dragon Age. The story is very good though, so if you don’t like the gameplay I very much recommend watching an LP by someone you find engaging. It’s not like Undertale where being the player meaningfully affects the experience of the narrative.

How do you explain the vast wealth of free software and entertainment media created by both professionals and hobbyists alike? How do you explain the profitability of games and movies when any of us can pirate a copy with little effort? Why is it possible to sell copies of public domain books when we have libraries?

Why wouldn’t we buy his book? Is it bad?

You’re making this argument via FOSS.
- Comment on Reddit hints at expanded AI-powered search 1 year ago:
My favorite application for AI is as a search tool. I can describe concepts to ChatGPT and it will tell me what it’s called and lead me to further reading.
For example, I once showed it a picture and asked it about the art style. I told it what I liked about it and asked for suggestions of other styles or techniques that would have a similar appeal. It was a very fruitful experience that just can’t be done with a search bar.
That said, it’s Reddit. I’m sure it’ll be terrible.

Doesn’t it matter though? Isn’t delivering the promised product the correct reparations for failing to deliver a product? Pretty sure it was easy to get a refund back then, too.
