- Comment on Subnautica 2's EULA is causing a bit of a ruckus, but Unknown Worlds say they're "looking into" the current terms 6 days ago:
For example, the EULA says you’re not allowed to “use IP proxying or other methods to disguise the location of your use or Device,” meaning you can’t use a VPN while playing the game. This will surely be worrying for the digitally cautious out there, though given that this is an online game where access to it can presumably be revoked based on your IP address, I imagine this is why that rule is in place. You also can’t “engage in any acts prohibited by applicable laws or generally unacceptable by social norms,” but whose norms are we talking about?
There’s also a section that goes into ownership, explaining the usual thing of how you don’t actually own the game or anything in it, but it also notes that if you make anything based on the game, or even modify it in some way, the game’s publisher Krafton will own it. This could presumably include fan works like art and the like. Gross, obviously, but also quite a common thing to find in these sorts of agreements, and one I’m not so sure we’ll see changed.
Perhaps the most eyebrow raising point is that “arbitration on an individual basis means that you will not have, and you hereby waive, the right for a judge or jury to decide your claims.” The whole thing is coated in legalese, a language I am not fluent in, but it seems like this one might just be a bit of a scare tactic.

A cellphone doesn’t have a visible antenna, yet it transmits. I’m only saying this because I dont know about cars… are you removing the radio receiver antenna, or is there a cell phone antenna hidden in the car somewhere that can also be removed?

Lovely article. All the context up top perfectly leads to the buried lede at the end:
We are accustomed to adding operating system features to comply with laws. Accessibility features for ADA, and power efficiency settings for Energy Star regulations are two examples. We are a part of this world and we believe in the rule of law. We still hope these laws will be recognized for the folly they are and removed from the books or found unconstitutional.

I loved the main character, her sister, and the other characters. Probably my favorite part of BZ was how lived in and full of history it felt compared to Subnautica.
I agree the land part sucked balls.
I didn’t care that much about the creatures in either game, except I did like the reefbacks in 1, and dislikes the brain octopus, electric jellyfish in 2.
I guess I likes the stalkers in 1, and the teeth/metal mechanic was fun.
I loved the submarine!!!

Ah, gotcha.
I’m not technical enough to understand the functional difference between flatpak and snap, but I know that snaps are centrally controlled by Canonical and thus I assume not as enshittification resistant as flatpak.
But from the end user perspective, they can be a lot simpler to use than ppas for random software. For me they’re kind of a guilty pleasure.

AFAIK it is packages but also default configurations. I am not an expert though this is just a guess.

Ubuntu is great. Lots of guides for things, great community support, and things usually just work. Plenty easy enough to do what you want to do without having to learn a bunch of stuff all the time.
I think this is why it is not the preferred choice for experts who want to configure everything themselves, or have strong opinions about the internals of how it works.
But I basically want to never have to think about the os if I don’t have to.

Out of curiosity, is the live USB / install experience that different than kubuntu? I’ve never tried mint.
