- Comment on Chinese memory ban would cut off RAMpocalypse relief 2 weeks ago:
“The global memory shortage will likely require a whole-of-government approach to solve. The answer to high memory prices is not dependence on subsidized Chinese chips but expanded manufacturing capacity, which will lower costs for US companies and consumers for decades rather than months"
If only there were a simple alternative to either scenario.
It's not like lawmakers could go after the AI bros who's reservations of years worth of memory manufacturing is the sole reason for the shortage. That would be socialist /s. - Comment on GOG throws shade at Sony with "download it and save it forever" message 2 weeks ago:
Yup. It'll never stop being ironic that less than 10 years ago Sony published an entire Ad campaign taking the piss out of Microsoft wanting the Xbox One to be digital only, and now they're literally doing the exact same thing

Still, the current legislative progress in California has to be heartening for the Stop Killing Games movement, which has seen its momentum in the UK stall a bit after a UK Parliament debate on game preservation last November.
Having seen that debate, "stall a bit" is not the language I'd have used for what happened.
Multiple impassioned politicians almost completely ignored by the Government spokesperson in an almost certainly pre-written speech asserting that the industry said this was too hard to implement, therefore we're gonna do fuck all for game preservation.
