  Exactly! Using proprietary battery shapes and sealing them inside the devices benefits only the manufacturer - everybody else loses. I also can’t believe the bullshit excuses they use to justify this: “open designs can’t be waterproof” (yes, they can), “sealed cases are thinner and lighter” (by a fraction of measurement nobody can even appreciate in daily use), etc.

  I absolutely refuse to buy any small gadgets using rechargeable batteries. I buy either wired, or using standard AA/AAA batteries.
  I am seeing the similar trend in pocket and tabletop radios, which is an absolute nonsense.
