Comment on If you drop (or throw) your new Steam Controller it will scream at you
ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 12 hours agoThat 100% sounds like an Easter egg that a developer snuck in under the radar. I doubt it was an official feature that was developed.

Why does a controller need a speaker to begin with? Or, I assume, a gyroscope.
Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 hours ago
Gyros are incredible and it doesn’t have a speaker. The haptics motors make that noise by vibrating.
Kaiserschmarrn@feddit.org 10 hours ago
The controller doesn’t have a speaker. The sound is produced by its haptic motors.
SavinDWhales@lemmy.world 10 hours ago
Uh. I think it does. You can page it in case you’ve misplaced it and it will ring.
Also, on/off sounds, etc.
morbidcactus@lemmy.ca 6 hours ago
The og did all of that through haptics, it worked really well. don’t see cutouts in the case for a speaker and I didn’t see any mention on ifixit, feel like valve would have listed it in the specs.

Oh that sounds like a great way to burn them out!
Did that too an OG Xbox controller once. Makes this feature even worse.
Jolteon@lemmy.zip 2 hours ago
If that were enough to burn out haptic motors, they would burn out after only a couple hours of use.

Controllers have had gyroscopes since the Dualshock 3.
JillyB@beehaw.org 11 hours ago
Well many controllers have gyros for aiming or stearing or whatever. It would be weird if it didn’t. The previous steam controller had probably the best gyro of any controller.
ParlimentOfDoom@piefed.zip 10 hours ago
People use those outside of a wii game?
GammaGames@beehaw.org 11 hours ago
The gryo is a big selling point
