If you have weird issues with fps/resolution with a Quest over steam link or any PCVR stuff, make sure it’s using the correct API for Steam (like alvr or Steam’s own thing) and not the meta one.
Comment on Steam Frame is Poised for Launch as Units Begin Reaching the US
SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 2 days agoFucking please. I have an index but bought a quest for my wife to be able to play with me and meta support is far and away the WORST support experience I have had in my entire life. It’s comically bad. Also steam link with the quest is rough, and I fucking refuse to give meta any money for games so it’s basically shelved at the moment.

I don’t know what else to bring in the house, but if you have a gaming rig and happe to run Linux I’ve had great success with ALVR for two years, then recently WiVRn. Both are wireless streaming solutions that replace Steam VR/Steam Link and according to my friends who also run Quest 3s I get way better performance. Obviously your mileage may vary with hardware/network etc. but it’s better then not using your gear.

I did a test run of bazzite on a SHIT laptop that deserves to be thrown in the trash and it was a more or less positive experience for general gaming. When I installed it on my main rig, literally no steam games would launch and I honestly couldn’t be assed to troubleshoot at the time.
