Comment on [Discussion] What was first Steam game you ever purchased?
Buffalox@lemmy.world 13 hours agoI didn’t play it very much, I suppose it was OK, but I think it was a huge failure for Microsoft. Maybe others did like me, only played it for a few days, and then lost interest.
I think we had Playonlinux back then. Before that I personally only used WineHQ and their recommended tweaks. So 100% manual. Goddam there were some weird settings for graphics that could be crucial. 😋 It was quite a chore to get anything to work back then.

Yes, I was thinking of PlayOnLinux, just couldn’t remember. I never got into Steam over WINE, because WINE was always cumbersome to use for me. And I didn’t want bet my money on that. Lot of people did though, with various levels of success. Wish I was more brave!

I perfectly understand not caring for the hassle to get games top work back then.
I remember when the humble indie bundles were new, it was absolutely amazing to get a couple of games that were actually playable and fun. World of Goo was by far the best game I had played on Linux when that arrived.

That reminds me, my favorite Linux game I played before Steam on Linux was an Open Source game Teeworlds. I don’t remember if I played anything proprietary on Linux at that time (besides emulation off course).

We had never winter nights, but somehow I never got around to finishing that?
