- Comment on [Discussion] What are you playing on your Deck? - June 2026 5 days ago:
My answer is a bit cheating, because its emulation of Playstation 1 via RetroArch. The game is Dark Deception 3: Dark Delusion. It looks good, and the soundtrack is phenomenal. The manual is not needed, because the game teaches with tutorials. If you want, have a look at screenshots to get an idea how the game looks. Overall game seem to be okayish in gameplay, but makes up with an unusual game concept and good soundtrack.
The game is an Tactical Action Adventure game, with levels to pass. So its more a linear game with stages. Controls are not great, more like tank controls from third person. The idea is to run around, setup traps and attacks and with one of the buttons “use” them at the right time. The character is basically a witch. Bring up the “map” to set traps for the associated button. I’m quite early on, so not sure if I will ever finish this. If you choose to play this game, be aware that there is no autosave and you have to save manually after each stage.

I think you guys don’t read the context of the message. I was responding to:
Well, here goes the hope for a sub-1000€ Steam machine.
In which I tried to explain there is hope for a machine under 1000 Euros, because the machine just don’t add up in price, but there are parts that make it cheaper to produce. So your paraphrasing therefore incomplete and misleading.
- Comment on Steam Deck back in stock, with higher pricing 1 week ago:
I wasn’t arguing that? I feel like there is some disconnect in our discussion?
- Comment on Steam Deck back in stock, with higher pricing 1 week ago:
I am not arguing that most people will use mouse and keyboard only. But nothing speaks against it and having the option to buy without controller makes sense to me. Even if it costs 70 Euros more with controller, why would I buy it with one? And I am surely not in the minority of having a controller already, and not everyone wants to use a Steam Controller anyway.
All I am saying is, that there will be an option to buy it without controller probably, which helps Valve keep the price down as possible. Which is a very important factor, so that will happen for sure.
- Comment on Steam Deck back in stock, with higher pricing 1 week ago:
Not having a screen is not going to lower the price much.
Off course not having a screen will lower the price much, especially if we talk about OLED. It does not affect the price as much as memory, but it helps not having it. And that is not even the only thing. Yes, the Steam Machine has some other stuff going on over the Steam Deck, like 8GB of additional VRAM (oof) and bigger and better CPU. I am aware of that and that was not my point. I was talking about all the other non memory stuff, that combined still has impact on the price.

A controller is not essential for a PC / Steam Machine. Who says everyone wants to use a controller for the Steam Machine? One could just use mouse and keyboard and that is not wrong. Or another one already purchased the Steam Controller standalone (or has other controllers that could be used). On a console, usually you need the official controller as most controllers won’t work. I mean if you have a Xbox or Switch controller, it would not work on a Playstation. But most controllers work on a PC / Steam Machine.
In example, if I were to buy a Steam Machine, I would choose one without controller. Why? Because I have multiple, even a Steam Controller already. There is 0 value for me to pay 100 Euros extra for a controller I would not need. Valve tries to get the price down as much as possible, and having that option is a simple way.
- Comment on Steam Deck back in stock, with higher pricing 1 week ago:
It will probably come with and without gamepad. As you can use other gamepads too and maybe you have one already. At times like these, having the choice of buying without gamepad to get it 100 Dollars / Euros cheaper is worth a lot.
- Comment on Steam Deck back in stock, with higher pricing 1 week ago:
I still have the first generation, first pre-order 256GB LCD model, + 512GB microSD. It still rocks. The Steam Deck is not my main machine, so therefore I have nothing to complain. Seeing the new prices really hurts to watch go online. And I thought the Xbox Series X price is bad enough.
- Comment on Steam Deck back in stock, with higher pricing 1 week ago:
I wish the old LCD models were still available, especially the 64GB model. We needed that more than ever.
- Comment on Steam Deck back in stock, with higher pricing 1 week ago:
Th 512GB OLED model still cost under 800 Dollars. Steam Machine does not include any OLED display, controller or battery. And it does not need to fit in small size. So there are things that help the Steam Machine compared to a handheld. Let’s say you have already a controller and decide to get the cheapest 512GB model of Steam Machine.
- Comment on [Discussion] How well does playing your Steam Deck docked work for you? 1 week ago:
Well your tv could still have lag. You can test it by playing games without external screen, but using your PS5 controller. Then you do the same with the TV and see if there is additional lag. It could be, I am not saying it is from the tv. And maybe additionally the PS5 controller over Bluetooth adds lag too. Especially if you are not close to the system and some other stuff in the house may interfere. And if its the controller, then either it is from the controller itself or the Steam Decks Bluetooth module is not good.
I’m just brainstorming here, never looked this up online where others did “scientific” tests.
- Comment on [Discussion] How well does playing your Steam Deck docked work for you? 1 week ago:
Without the Steam Controller, I didn’t want even play docked on tv / monitor. The only time I tried it was to record some gameplay (an external recording device in between monitor and the Deck), so that I get everything record, not just the gameplay. I don’t have the original dock and tried with some random HDMI output thingy. And it worked! Here some bad illustration of the setup:
From Steam Deck over converter, to recorder. The recorder splits up to tv output and saves the live video recording to drive.
[ Steam DECK ] o--o [ USB to HDMI ] o | ----------- o | | [ USB Drive ] o--o [ Recorder ] o---o | TV | | | -----------
And it worked perfectly fine! Did I need to do the ascii illustration? No, but I had fun with it. :D
- Comment on [Discussion] How well does playing your Steam Deck docked work for you? 1 week ago:
Probably your monitor or tv. There should be no additional lag from the Decks perspective when using an external display.

Edited to add, I also kinda hate that analogy because in your analogy you’re painting Valve as a victim (having been robbed). Valve isn’t a victim here; they made bank.
Wrong, Valve is a victim here. That’s the point. One should not be mad at a victim.
Channel your hate towards who are the actual problem and causing this.
- Comment on Steam Controller delivery vent 1 week ago:
You seem to not realize that Valve didn’t “fuck up” (or created scarcity). It is the scalpers and only scalpers to blame.
- Comment on Steam Controller delivery vent 1 week ago:
I agree with you and do not dispute this claim. It was wrong from Valve to not do the pre-order dance and special ordering process they already did before. All I am saying is, that Valve did not create this with the intention of scarcity. Instead getting mad at Valve, one should be mad at scalpers and UPS.
- Comment on Steam Controller delivery vent 1 week ago:
Valve simply underestimated the demand for the controller, and that scalpers would buy it for that price. I don’t think they did that with the purpose to scarcity. Why would Valve do that, what is the reason in your opinion? And why would even Valve give free games by choice (even expensive games) for anyone who did not get the controller?
- Comment on Steam Controller delivery vent 1 week ago:
Feels like Valve created this scarcity with the stupid ordering process
No, Valve did not create this on purpose. The ordering process is done to fight scalpers. In fact the first batch of Steam Controller did not have any special ordering process and that’s when scalpers and bots purchased all controllers in short amount of time. That is why Valve made it more complicated and limited to order. Yes your situation is frustrating. But you can’t fault Valve for you not being able to pick the controller up or how UPS handles the situation of what is possibly be a theft. Don’t blame Valve for this.
- Comment on if you're still waiting for GLS to ship your controller, check tracking for misrouting 1 week ago:
I feel sorry for the wait and uncertainty; its the worst (not literally off course). Lot of people report in forums that they did not get it. At least you got a free game of choice. For that it was probably a nice and not bad at all. In fact, I would have traded the wait for a compensation, lol. So enjoy the game.

Not exactly, one option is missing: We might be days from the launch away.
- Comment on if you're still waiting for GLS to ship your controller, check tracking for misrouting 2 weeks ago:
Got mine from first batch. I’m in Germany too and mine was sent to Netherlands first. It went smooth and got it at expected arrival time between 11:00 and 13:00 clock. So this should be expected. Also in between my wait time of a few days, there was a blackout time of the GLS tracking, when it didn’t show anything. I thought I might not get it, but after hours later the tracking went live again. I think this happened in the warehouses when it arrived at Netherlands and later in Germany.
- Comment on Valve just published two guides on how to get the most of the Trackpads on[ your Steam Controller or Deck 2 weeks ago:
I’m aware of EmuDeck and RetroDeck, and prefer using RetroArch on Steam Deck directly. I’m not really interested into any layer that sits in between for the input and manages the systems. I’m deep into the manual configuration of RetroArch already on PC and the Deck and I like it this way. It is cool what those projects do, but its not for me. I do not want to give any third party control over this.
As for the controls, I already have my controls and like how it works. My only “problem” is, that Steam does not offer us a way to document and upload the document (be it text only) with the Steam Input configuration.
- Comment on Valve just published two guides on how to get the most of the Trackpads on[ your Steam Controller or Deck 2 weeks ago:
I use virtual menus in RetroArch on my Steam Deck. Whenever I touch the left trackpad, the emulated game pauses and a menu shows up. On selection the game continues and runs the shortcut associated with the action in RetroArch. And there are more functionalities I am using. It really needed exact timing and fine tuning. Unfortunately I never uploaded it, because it depends on a specific configuration of some shortcuts that has to be done in RetroArch.
And that’s my biggest problem. There is no documentation or README we can write for the downloadable user configuration. Even a hyperlink would be good, so I could provide a webpage or PDF / Textfile for download.
- Comment on What's the Country of Origin for the new Steam Controller? 3 weeks ago:
I have the box myself. You are right, it says designed by VALVE and assembled in China. I didn’t think of checking the box, only looked at the controller and on the controller itself it does not say where it is made in for some reason.
Well there it is then.
- Comment on What's the Country of Origin for the new Steam Controller? 3 weeks ago:
That’s the puck that is made in China. It’s a separate product with a different product ID. So that is not a proof the Controller is made in China, especially because VALVE has a facility to build the first Steam Controller in US. Most likely smaller parts are made in China, but the Controller might be assembled in US, in VALVEs own full automated facility. I’m guessing here, but we have no proof right now.
- Comment on What's the Country of Origin for the new Steam Controller? 3 weeks ago:
I would assume the controller is made in US. The original Steam Controller 1 from 2016 is build by Valve, they have their own facility. I don’t know if this applies to the new Controller too, but here is the video in question: youtu.be/uCgnWqoP4MM
When we first started designing hardware at Valve, we decided we wanted to try and do the manufacturing as well. To achieve our goal of a flexible controller, we felt it was important to have a similar amount of flexibility in our manufacturing process, and that meant looking into automated assembly lines. It turns out that most consumer hardware of this kind still has humans involved in stages throughout manufacturing, but we kind of went overboard, and built one of the largest fully automated assembly lines in the US. Our film crew recently put together a video of that assembly line, showcasing exactly why robots are awesome.
Here’s that showcase, where you can watch controllers being built entirely by robots. We aren’t crazy though, so humans are still on hand to keep the robots from becoming sentient.

I’ve managed to do it more than once. Someone somewhere mentioned there is a possible cooldown, so you have to wait a few seconds before it screams again.
