- Comment on Steam is adding support to show estimated FPS for your hardware before buying a game 1 day ago:
No, this has never done before. Games configuring itself is something completely different and irrelevant to our discussion topic. It has nothing to do with gathering information from players and trying to estimate a FPS before buying the game. “Can You Run It” also does not estimate a FPS for your hardware, based on opt-in information from analyzing the FPS you are playing the game. And especially making it an official thing for a store is also spicey, because usually those stores selling the games themselves could potentially be sued for false marketing if it does not work well enough.
- Comment on Steam is adding support to show estimated FPS for your hardware before buying a game 1 day ago:
This is something gamers wish to have since inception of PC Gaming. And it was always told this cannot be done. That’s why we rely on game specs and tests. I mean we still rely on, but a storefront putting estimated FPS is something they would fear to do. And here we have VALVE (once again) doing the impossible. Very curious to see how this will workout in reality.
- Comment on Steam Deck OLED back in stock despite shortages, but you'll have to grab a refurbished one 2 weeks ago:
Hmm, mine (Germany) still have prices attached to it (refurbished LCDs).
- Comment on Steam Deck OLED back in stock despite shortages, but you'll have to grab a refurbished one 2 weeks ago:
(Me being smart) Depends when you read the comment (checking the time of reply) never mind 17 hours ago. It’s out of stock for Germany too.
- Comment on Steam Deck OLED back in stock despite shortages, but you'll have to grab a refurbished one 2 weeks ago:
I think the refurbished ones are under appreciated. They have manual calibration by a human, and therefore can exceed the standard factory model:
All refurbished units meet or even exceed the performance standards of new retail units.
The only downside is, it can (but don’t have to) have visible cosmetic blemishes. But in return you get same experience and rights of a factory model with lower cost, which is a huge deal in today’s day and age. This is the reason why I consider my next Steam Deck 2 (OLED) as a refurbished one. I can wait. :-)
- Comment on [Discussion] Would you buy a Steam smart phone? 3 weeks ago:
I just made a similar comment and totally agree on both points. In the past, handhelds were actually this small, like a (bigger) phone with controls attached. Smartphones have bad battery life too and if its based on Android, then privacy concerns too. A dedicated handheld should be cheaper then full fledged power smartphone being able to play those games.
- Comment on [Discussion] Would you buy a Steam smart phone? 3 weeks ago:
Enable Beta updates.
- Comment on [Discussion] Would you buy a Steam smart phone? 3 weeks ago:
A Steam smartphone implies to me its main purpose is to play PC games and not caring about the other stuff. And no, for that reason I wouldn’t buy a Steam smartphone. Because playing games on mobile phone sucks, for controls (and I always need a controller in addition), battery life and size. And its probably as expensive as a PC. I would rather buy a dedicated handheld, if its available in this form. And if its based on Android, its a nogo anyway, for privacy reasons.
- Comment on Steam Machine update, Valve now says all three new products will ship this year (Updated) 4 weeks ago:
No, because they don’t have anything else. They only get age or in some cases, just the information if you are 18+ or under 18. They don’t know where you are.
- Comment on Steam Machine update, Valve now says all three new products will ship this year (Updated) 4 weeks ago:
It is not about your ID, it is about age. You should read those bills. An operating system has to accept an age the user is able to freely type in, no ID verification is done. So much false information.
- Comment on Steam Machine update, Valve now says all three new products will ship this year (Updated) 4 weeks ago:
Which is not an issue I think and definitely not a reason not to release the controller potentially months ahead.
- Comment on Steam Machine update, Valve now says all three new products will ship this year (Updated) 4 weeks ago:
I don’t think Valve has stock in warehouse already, I doubt that. They need to figure out pricing before committing. This is not a situation like Nintendo Switch, where they need to have millions at launch and more and be sure to sell them all. Also other companies get better deals and probably Valve needs to wait, or pay more to have higher priority to build them.
- Comment on Steam Machine update, Valve now says all three new products will ship this year (Updated) 4 weeks ago:
What “ID nerfed”? The laws are not about ID verification, so I am not sure what you are talking about.
- Comment on Steam Machine update, Valve now says all three new products will ship this year (Updated) 4 weeks ago:
One vague rumor suggested
No source? Who is that person? So nobody needs to listen to it. It’s a rumor, vague, from a single source and just a suggestion (sounds like an opinion rather than deep analysis). My point is, nobody knows and nobody can make predictions what will happen. Everyone has their opinion.
- Comment on Steam Machine update, Valve now says all three new products will ship this year (Updated) 4 weeks ago:
I’m a bit surprised that the Steam Controller might end up released later too. It does not have a builtin memory (or maybe to save settings?) and is not that expensive and big, therefore easier to produce and send in mass. Also releasing it early might also free up some production space and work for later when the Machine and Frame are released.
- Comment on Steam Machine update, Valve now says all three new products will ship this year (Updated) 4 weeks ago:
How to pre-order, if Valve even does not know what price the machine will end up? At the time of sending the machines, the price could go up for Valve very high and people have pre-ordered for wrong price. That means everyone who pre-ordered would get a price hike and in general a bad publicity. Pre-ordering anything is a bad thing if you don’t know the end product well. And combine it at these high prices in uncertainty times like these…
Valve should not make any promises or pre-orders right now. It would be the wrong thing to do.
- Comment on Here's how I fixed my Steam Deck when it stopped turning on. 1 month ago:
My original 256gb LCD model didn’t turn on a few times, maybe 3 times since launch. And I have no clue why. The only solution after trying a lot for me was, just leave it there for a week or so and then suddenly it turns on as if nothing was wrong. My theory is maybe something with the battery.
- Comment on Steam Deck is out of stock in the US? 1 month ago:
Sure, but we don’t know the limit of those budgets. And its not like Valve wouldn’t do innovation or try things out; otherwise there would be no improvemetns to the Steam store, no Steam Deck, no Steam Frame, no SteamOS, the controller, and they would not fund Linux projects and the FEX project, no Proton and so on. So I think its fair to say that Valve does all of that. Then to expect on top of that to lose money on selling hardware… when the hardware is already cheap and there is no need to.
- Comment on Steam Deck is out of stock in the US? 1 month ago:
The goal of any business is not to eat the loss, if its not important for survival. The Steam Deck is not crucial for operation of their business. Compared to consoles where its their only income (usually) and they depend on the number of sold units. Also compared to consoles, Valve is not in a position where they heavily compete on price and need to bring it down to price of competition.
In short, there is no need for Valve to eat the cost. It’s already a good price too.

Here in Germany / Europe the OLED models are still available.
- Comment on Official Valve: Steam Hardware Launch timing and other FAQs 1 month ago:
OK, so indirectly, like in any other PC and computer industry. I thought there was a specific issue with Steam and Sam. Never mind then, I understand the issue then.
- Comment on Official Valve: Steam Hardware Launch timing and other FAQs 1 month ago:
Well any game or launcher or emulator have to support the controller or type of controller. In example Valve cannot guarantee that all functionality (like the trackpads and motion controls) are supported elsewhere.
- Comment on Official Valve: Steam Hardware Launch timing and other FAQs 1 month ago:
But they answered the question. Valve can only guarantee that games are compatible with Steam Overlay compatible games. They don’t want to commit to a “yes” or “no” for stuff outside Steam, and then be liable for that answer if it does not work as advertised and then get sued to the ground. So you cannot blame them.
I don’t know on Windows, but on Linux you most likely can use the controller to play on any game. It’s just not supported and guaranteed by Valve.
- Comment on Official Valve: Steam Hardware Launch timing and other FAQs 1 month ago:
I purchased mine for full price too. Unfortunately I do not like it for various reasons. Missing dpad and second stick, and holding it is a bit uncomfortable to my hands. And at the early days Steam Input wasn’t this refined. But I loved using it to play with gyro controls. But will keep it, its history. :-)
The new controller is based on the Steam Deck controls and vastly superior to me (if we assume its like that). I can’t imagine you don’t liking it as much as the old controller.

Sorry, but what has Sam Altman anything to do with this announcement or set of information by VALVE?
- Comment on [Discussion] What are you playing on your Deck? - Feb 2026 2 months ago:
- just started Shenmue 3, I’m a big fan of the first two games from the Dreamcast era
- continue playing Sailor Moon: Another Story RPG on the SNES through RetroArch
As you can see, I’m oldschool fan. :D There are so many games installed and available to me, every time the Deck is opened up, I have choice paralyzes.
- Comment on Decky Plugin "DeckyParty" may be the easiest way yet to transfer files between your Deck and other devices 2 months ago:
I ssh into it with my file browser “Dolphin” on Linux (the same that is used in the Steam Deck as well). Needs to be setup first, but then I can access the files with the file browser. And secondary I ssh into it in terminal, but that is not to transfer files, but to have access to commands execution on the device (like installing something from commandline).

The immutable part is only for the main system. You can run any application, in example with a user script to install and setup everything in home directory. Or AppImage off course.

I hope they discover Flatpak and support that, instead only one platform.
