You are right, they shouldn’t. But we as consumers should also be educated about privacy and avoid buying things that are spying on us. If nobody bought this crap, then they would stop making it.

Polkira@lemmy.ca 16 hours agoAlso sometimes it’s unavoidable without workarounds. It shouldn’t be crazy to expect to buy a product that works and works well without it spying on you. Why should companies get the right to continue to collect data and generate more profit off of an item the consumer owns. Why should consumers have to give up their right to privacy so that a company can make obscene profits off of their information?
