I like to play Quake against bots, and to me QC are very nicely done compared to basically any other (rare) modern bots one can play 100% alone with.
All QC needs now is an offline mode I and don’t see myself playing any other shooter until the next Quake game releases. FUCKING PLEASE!!!
I thought QC meant QuakeC, the language John carmack made to code game logic in quake 1. Was so confused for a moment haha
Shame, I can’t see this move expanding the player base. Its actually fun and also looks good. Instagib was my jam.
Other than quake 3, the quakes have all been subpar after the first one. I liked aspects of 2, but 4 was trash. Quake live is just a revamp of 3, and quake champions is okay looking and kinda fun but starting to charge for it is the opposite move I would’ve expected because it’s just kind of okay and not many people will pay for it.
Maybe the thinking is people that have been playing for free for a while but didn’t spend on mtx crap will pay a small fee for a version without any such bs, and to keep playing a game they like.
And on the business side: cash crab before they shut it down as planned.

Why would anyone pay for a game that you just abandoned when they used to play it for free when you were actively working on it

I think it’s their way to get rid of it. No earnings, just expenses, only 200 dedicated people online on average with high entry barrier for new players - so they won’t be able to fix it in any way even if they wanted to.
Microsoft probably doesn’t see any sense in keeping it online so they want to strangle out active user count to single digits and shut it down.
Besides, I don’t know if anyone in Beth/Id directly responsible for it is even employed anymore. Quite possibly none.
