- Comment on How to get notified about Steam Hardware news the instant it's announced... 1 week ago:
RSS really is the most elegant, easiest, most customizable way to do this. Valve really is the GOAT when it comes to actually treating customers well (and don‘t think of them as dumb).
- Comment on What's the Country of Origin for the new Steam Controller? 1 week ago:
That was 10 years ago. Since then Asia has gotten a lot better at manufacturing. Virtually all electronics are manufactured there now.
- Comment on Steam Controller: Reservations open May 8th 2 weeks ago:
Now the scalpers sell the controllers to the rich.
I actually like the approach, because it makes it insanely expensive to be a scalper. This leads to fewer scalpers, less inflated demand and probably more people getting their controller sooner.
I really really dislike the business model of scalpers and putting them out of business is good.
- Comment on Steam Controller and Puck CAD files now available! 3 weeks ago:
IANAL but I believe that license only applies to the files not for products created with those files as those don‘t include the CAD files. But you are not allowed to sell derivative CAD models of those CAD models.
- Comment on Steam Deck massively improves controller support with new options and refinements 3 months ago:
Upstream it into the kernel. Open source usually revolves around everyone solving their own problems (being selfish according to GKH), but everyone else profiting from it as well.
- Comment on I was recently gifted a Steam Deck for Christmas! If you only had a budget of, let's say 50 bucks, what would you get? 4 months ago:
Install the PS2 games (or whatever was your first console) of your childhood and bring back old memories. For the PS2 I can especially recommend the OpenGOAL project which let‘s you play Jak & Daxter in modern resolutions. It is basically free if you (like me) own the games anyway.
- Comment on Steam Deck lead reveals Valve is funding ARM compatibility of Windows games “to expand PC gaming” and release “ultraportables” in the future 5 months ago:
They have not. I can‘t provide you the link, but it was long speculated that they are working on an ARM device. Also you cannot really hide activity in an open source project. It was just not officially communicated that these changes have been funded by Valve.

- Comment on Lenovo Legion Go S with SteamOS at CES 2025 video by Verge 1 year ago:
I wonder if Lenovo gets a revenue share when they sell a game on the device. This could also explain the $100 price difference as the they are counting on the additional income. Are there any leaks / rumors on this?
- Comment on [help] Black Screen of Death 1 year ago:
Keep calm and contact support. They are responsive, nice and will help you. I had a very similar thing, if not exactly the same. They gave me instructions, some of them I already read online, some of them not. It felt hopeless and it went back and forth multiple time until it suddenly worked again. They really know their stuff. In the end it was something with the base OS version.
- Comment on Valve confirms it'll support the ROG Ally with its Steam Deck operating system 1 year ago:
Okay, understood. May be SteamOS was the incorrect wording. I meant the Linux Kernel, Arch, Proton. I am assuming most changes are related to hardware and software compatibility which should all be open source.
- Comment on Valve confirms it'll support the ROG Ally with its Steam Deck operating system 1 year ago:
Yes, thats how Open Source works or they can keep paying Windows. Asus knows their hardware much better than Valve does and has a much bigger interest in a good user experience, but currently lacks the incentive, because Windows is a „good“ paid alternative. Honestly I don’t understand all the downvotes.
- Comment on Valve confirms it'll support the ROG Ally with its Steam Deck operating system 1 year ago:
Valve shouldn’t give their blessing to SteamOS on the Ally. That should be Asus‘ job. However they could give Asus a cut on every game sold through their device on SteamOS (like a few percent). That would make it much more financially interesting for Asus and they might put an official team behind it, to support SteamOS.
- Comment on What is your favorite Open Source Game on Steam Deck? 2 years ago:
Definitely Widelands! It captures the heart of settlers 2 while also extending it in ways that were really needed to make it even more enjoyable. Also with the right controller layout it plays very ergonomically. (Use a trigger to switch to map scrolling via the touchpads)

Very interesting! Could you provide some summary of what the trends are or may be visualize the results? I am new to this kind of data
- Comment on RetroDECK - Status update 2023-09 2 years ago:
Free software is not about free of charge, but about freedom. If you publish open source software under a license which allows commercial use or selling the software, you have given consent. If you don‘t like that, change the license. (Users will still be able to use the software for free if they choose to compile it themself, because the source code is available.
Redhat does exactly what you are describing: Packageing open source software into a paid Linux distribution and I would say they had an immense net positive effect on Linux doing this. I believe that this the point. Don‘t be an asshole. If you partly profit of someone else open source software, give them money, bug reports, bug fixes, recognition, etc. Be part of the community.
