Many mods were made way easier with a recent Proton update. Lots of games use DLL overrides to load mods, which required setting launch commands to use through Proton. This is no longer an issue, so any mods that work by doing this will now function perfectly out of the box.
I recently nodded GTA and the mod had specific instructions for Linux, which I was able to simply ignore thanks to this update.

Replacing it with Bazzite is a great option if you want to do anything that SteamOS is too restrictive for without sacrificing any of the features

The more devices running Linux, the more games and launchers that will support Linux. I wouldn’t want to buy a SteamOS ROG Ally, but I definitely want it to exist.

The gaming mode is still the Steam Client. It’s just the big picture client which has built in additional features when used on a Steam Deck.

You can get very high end office chairs incredibly cheap if you looks used. It’s not hard to all to find Steelcase Leaps and Herman Miller Aerons under $300 on Craigslist, eBay, FB Marketplace, or used office supply stores.

seconf hand steelcase leaps are great too.

Honestly, I disagree with Heroic not being good enough, I think it’s the only other launcher on Linux that is. It’s very polished and everything has worked out of the box for me. The problem is simply that it’s unofficial, no company would ship it on a gaming device.

That might happen if any other launcher chooses to natively support Linux. Right now Steam is the best option.

It should just work through Lutris
- Comment on [Question] Switch and Deck users, which games do you still prefer to play on switch? 1 year ago:
Why do they need to know what it is though? My deck works great for local because I dont need 4 of the same type of controller. Everyone gets a random one and we’re off
- Comment on Valve May Start Selling Refurbished Steam Decks Soon - Steam Deck HQ 1 year ago:
They have to say not to open so that they aren’t liable for people breaking it when opening it. Some aspects of the hardware are hard to work with, like replacing the battery, but joysticks and screens (the main things I would expect people to need to repair) are surprisingly easy to access for a modern portable device.

That’s nice to see. I recently RMAd mine and was sent a new one. Mine definitely wasn’t unfixable, but I think would’ve taken longer than Valve would prefer. I hope it gets refurbished and sold instead of just trashed.
