Any chance you would want to add twystlock.com to the accessories section?
- Comment on What are your favorite accessories for the steam deck? 3 weeks ago:
Mechanism’s stuff is great, the main differences between Twystlock and it are:
- Twystlock is an open connector, it can be used for anything
- Twystlock doesn’t require any springs or heat-set inserts
- Twystlock doesn’t require any supports when printed
- Mechanism latch may be more durrable, but I’ve tested the Twystlock wall hanger for over 1K mounts and it’s still going strong
- I don’t sell anything, and everything on nowsci.com is given away for free
So basically, I don’t ever intend to compete, because I don’t care. I made these to improve my CAD and engineering skills, and because I wanted them, as I do most things, and then send them out into the world 😉

The ones I designed and gave away: twystlock.com 😉

Can you turn Steam Input off on the Deck? I did find a partial solution (see edited post)
- Comment on Input lag with built-in controls? 4 weeks ago:
Oh perfect, see edited post for a partial solution (so far), I will use this game to test my findings.

No plugins, but see edited post for a partial solution (so far). Thanks!

So, this got me thinking. I turned off thr FPS limiter and allowed Tearing in Gamescope. Turned off Vsync and set FPS limiter to 144 in Rocket League. Lo and behold, playable. I think this lay have more to do with the display than the controls.

Agreed, for me. But if I played all retro, might be a different story.

I hope not. To get to the sticks you’d need giant hands.
- Comment on How's the battery life after you've had one for a while? 2 months ago:
Mines been fine, but It’s fairly easy to replace of ot ever isn’t.
- Comment on Do you use your Deck for non-gaming purposes? If so, what do you use it for? 2 months ago:
Thats my main working setup, but I use it with the Deck, too. The deco slides into the bag alongside that 😉

And yes, it’s a mobile workstation for me. I typically use code-server, so I’ll have VSCode open in the top, and everything else on the bottom. Works well since it’s width-saving in a coffee shop. I tried one of those “triple monitor” setups that connect to the laptop screen, and the angle was awful, no idea how people use those. Love me some triple-curved at home, though ;)

See response to the other commenter in this chain. Posted a picture, and a Dropbox picture link to “everything”.

This fits in my Osprey Daylight 13L pack.

Happily, but… Of what exactly? Not sure if you just want to see layout, or the details of the 3d model, etc.
- Comment on Had to reimage my deck; impressed by how well a backup of my home folder carried over system and app settings 2 months ago:
Nope. You use it like a normal system. It handles that.

Ahhh makes sense, thanks.

I’m not a Fedora fan, but this is what Bazzite (desktop Steam Deck like OS) is based on. It’s almost like source control, where any updates you make are on top of the base image, and when you update, it just rebases your changes over to of the new base image (simplified).
Beyond that, take a look at what many people do called dotfiles. This is where you symlink common home directory files ans folders like
.config
/etc to agit
repo, so not only is it easy to restore any Linux OS settings for apps, you also get version history. - Comment on Do you use your Deck for non-gaming purposes? If so, what do you use it for? 2 months ago:
I run Bazzite on my PC, and have a Deck. I have found zero reason to put it on my Deck.

How does the drawing tablet work for FreeCAD? And is it one with or without a screen?
Curious on the use case.

I just picked up a 144hz USB-C 16" monitor with a magnetic cover like a tablet. Paired it with a mini tripod and designed/printed a magnetic bracket so the monitor just snaps on. Slides right into my tiny 13L pack (barely).

I worked in similar for many years as well, including with companies that provided services to tons of hospitals. What you experienced seems pretty advanced for what I ran into, so good to know.

Yea I’ve done work in Privacy focused companies, and they love this stuff, but everyone else who isn’t a journalist… Probably not.
You mention HIPPA, and the interesting one with that (to me) is offices don’t track conversation already, so it probably wouldnt impact situations like that, but Signal chat most certainly would. Can’t report a violation if you can’t see it.
- Comment on [HELP] Recommendations for portable setup with keyboard and mouse? 2 months ago:
Unfortunately no, at least not that I can still find. It was really just a lap tray and I used industrial Velcro with adhesive on the back, along with an adhesive mousepad. The mouse holder is just from the box it came in.
The challenge was the lack of wireless for the single-handed hardware keyboard at the time, so a USB2BT module was needed, and those knobs I added at the top were for wrapping a wire from a tiny USB2.0 Hub for if I wanted to be wired.
Doing it again it would be 100% wireless with magnetic quick charge connectors on all the elements. (I got a million of them of different angles off Aliexpress and have them on all my travel items).
- Comment on [HELP] Recommendations for portable setup with keyboard and mouse? 2 months ago:
Admittedly I did this years ago, and had to use USB to BT adapters which was janky. Wireless keyboards are much better now 😉
- Comment on [HELP] Recommendations for portable setup with keyboard and mouse? 2 months ago:
Ahhh yea. If I were to do this with a backpack I’d probably make something folding. Having the tray is super nice for couch visits.
- Comment on [HELP] Recommendations for portable setup with keyboard and mouse? 2 months ago:
Hear me out, you don’t want portable, you want transportable. I made this. It’s a lap tray with cushion underneath and a handle, and everything attaches to it.
- Comment on Signal gets new video call features, making it a viable alternative to Zoom, Meet and Teams 2 months ago:
Until you can manage a “group of people” (your company), and give them permissions to “rooms” (chats/channels) by group, Signal can’t compete.
Administrators aren’t going to one-off everything, or rely on users to do it when there is no admin visibility.
Getting admin tools right with an encrypted service is key here.
