The Steam Machine is slightly bigger but it’s very close.
GameCube: 110 mm x 161 mm x 150 mm
Steam Machine: 152 mm x 162.4 mm x 156 mm

I’ve had mine since Monday and so far I’ve been very happy with it. Because of my work schedule, I’ve probably only played about 2-4 hours but the convenience of how quickly it boots up or even just being able to pause/resume a game like on the Steam Deck has been amazing.
I got the 2TB Machine so I got the 2 extra faceplates, both are really nice and I’ve opted to go with the wooden one. All 3 (2 extras and the normal black one) feel very well built (each is slightly different due to the variation in materials) and are extremely easy to swap due to the magnets.
Setup was a bit tricky though. I’d gotten my Steam Controller when they initially came out so it was paired to my desktop PC. I tried to follow the setup video that Valve posted but even with the puck connected to my Machine, it just wouldn’t work. If I wired the controller directly to the Machine, it would work for a couple of inputs then it would stop. That being said, I plugged in an Xbox controller, which immediately worked. Then after running the various firmware updates, the Machine actually recognized that the Steam Controller wasn’t paired properly and it walked me through how to pair it with it. Since doing that, I’ve not had any issues with it and the controller has been able to turn on the Machine from sleep or even from a power off state every time I’ve tried. CEC has also been hit or miss, it’s really convenient when it works but sometimes it won’t switch the input or turn off my TV after shutting down. That being said, I’m pretty sure it’s more an issue with my TV than the Machine since I’ve had similar CEC issues before.
Happy to test anything (non destructive of course) or expand on anything I’ve said if anyone is curious.

This is a pretty ridiculous take if we’re being honest. Saying the Machine misses the mark for all gamers assumes that all gamers want to only play the latest releases at 4K60, meanwhile, many are more than happy to play at 1080p or 1440p, and most buyers of the Machine will have preexisting libraries that they want to play (especially as reservations were gated to existing steam accounts). Most of those games will likely not be the most demanding titles available. For instance, I’ve yet to actually find a title that hasn’t ran well at 1080p (and in many cases 4K) out of my 1,000+ game library, especially since not every game is ideal for couch gaming which is what the Machine is intended to provide.
Additionally, anything that ran on the Steam Deck will run even better on the Machine. Plus it gives a fixed hardware point for devs to target, which is likely to happen similar to what we’ve seen since the Deck launched.
Sure the Machine is expensive, and it may not be the perfect device for some customers like yourself, but for many it meets enough criterias to more than justify the price.

Not only does it wake it from sleep, but it also turns it on if it was shutdown.
That being said, I had the same issue as the previous comment when initially pairing my Controller to the Machine (I got the 2TB Machine but had a Controller from when they initially launched). I had to do my setup with an Xbox controller instead and after running the initial updates, it paired without issues and I’ve been able to easily use it on the Machine and my desktop PC.
- Comment on Steam is now allowing users to reserve a 2nd Steam Controller 1 week ago:
I don’t have a PS5 controller but so far I’ve tested both the Steam Controller and an Xbox controller so far. Funnily enough, the Steam Controller was giving me issues during setup and I had to use my Xbox controller instead until I managed to connect my Steam Machine to WiFi and updated everything.
I can test out a PS4 controller tonight if you’d like (I don’t own a PS5 controller, the PS4 is the only PlayStation I’ve owned).
- Comment on Has anyone here got their Steam Machine yet? 1 week ago:
Got the email to purchase mine (2TB no controller, but I managed to get a controller when they first came out so not too disappointed I didn’t get the bundle) last Wednesday, it shipped the following day and should be arriving on Monday. I actually have the day off too so I’m looking forward to spending a good amount of the day testing it out when it arrives.

I’d signed up for both 2tb options and the 512 with controller, managed to get on the reservation queue for the 2tb!
You’re officially in the reservation queue for Steam Machine 2TB
When your Steam Machine 2TB becomes available, we will send you a separate email with the option to purchase. You’ll then have 3 days to complete the purchase before we cancel your reservation and move on to the next person in the queue.
This is the only email you will receive about the results of the randomization. If you ended up with a reservation queue spot for more than one model, you were allocated a reservation for the highest end model, and were removed from all the others.

No, I’m pretty sure you’re running into a much more obscure problem than you realize. I’ve never had a single password be forgetten, nor has any other person I know with a steam deck.

I have a feeling they’re referring to SteamDB plus Augmented Steam.
- Comment on [Discussion] What games are you playing on your deck? - January 2025 1 year ago:
Started playing Spiritfarer and UFO50 in the last couple weeks and will likely play them into the beginning of 2025.
- Comment on Whats your favorite Main Menu music? 2 years ago:
Such a fantastic song. Not at all surprising that it was the first piece of music from a video game to not only be nominated for but to win a Grammy.
- Comment on Valve detail their plans to combat Steam Deck OLED scalpers 2 years ago:
I’m in the same boat, I can only justify the expense to myself if I’m able to get the limited edition. The OLED model seems to address basically all of my minor issues with the LCD model so I know I’d enjoy the upgrade but it’s definitely not necessary for me to enjoy the device.
