- Comment on [Discussion] Do you use any headphones with your Steam Deck? 5 hours ago:
I don’t have a Steam Deck, but I do have earbuds I use with Linux, which is similar. I have the EarFun buds (3, I think), which allow connection to multiple devices at once, have good compatibility, noise reduction, long battery life, and are relatively reasonably priced, under £60.
- Comment on What If Free Speech Means Banning TikTok? 1 week ago:
Just as governments shouldn’t censor speech, neither should companies of a certain size and influence. I’m absolutely not suggesting the government forcing companies to censor things.
- Comment on What If Free Speech Means Banning TikTok? 1 week ago:
I mean that they shouldn’t be allowed to arbitrarily censor stuff once they’re big enough, not that the government should be able to enforce censor lists.
- Comment on What If Free Speech Means Banning TikTok? 1 week ago:
The EU is right on this though, if they’re big enough to be gatekeepers through the network effect, they should be held to higher standards than some random site with 1000 users.

He disagrees with many experts, who predict AGI that can edit its own code will almost immediately lead to ASI.

- Comment on Hacker shows how a cigarette lighter can grant you root access 2 months ago:
I do use a password manager, but I can’t use it for signing into a machine, just signing into other things once I’m already logged in. I usually do remember my password, but there was an incident when I changed my password because I thought someone had guessed it, and then forgot what I had changed it to and was only able to recover my data because my SSDs were not encrypted
- Comment on Hacker shows how a cigarette lighter can grant you root access 2 months ago:
I chose to not encrypt my SSDs as I don’t want to forget the password and lose all my data. But now I have an external backup I’m fine encrypting them.

- Comment on How Telegram Became a Playground for Criminals, Extremists and Terrorists 3 months ago:
For a long time, Telegram has acted as if it’s above the law
What law? That the government can read and censor your private messages? Then good, and we should want it to stay that way!
- Comment on How Telegram Became a Playground for Criminals, Extremists and Terrorists 3 months ago:
Without a disclaimer that Telegram is a platform that anyone can use, and that is mainly used by non criminals, and policing speech in private chats is a really bad idea for privacy, it just seems like fearmongering to get people to hate Telegram, because obviously Facebook’s WhatsApp is so much better.

I don’t have a Steam Deck and probably won’t get one, but I’m glad they exist, as it has made Linux gaming in general much better supported and simpler.

- Comment on X caught blocking links to NPR, claiming the news site may be 'unsafe' 3 months ago:
If they have that much influence, they should have the same rules as the government and not be allowed to censor or punish you for your speech at all.

I would get a Garmin if it was cheap enough, instead I got a second hand Hauwei watch and just don’t connect it to the internet so it can’t upload my data to China.
- Comment on Steam Deck Users Account for 10% Of All Players Using Steam Input 5 months ago:
Most games are better with a mouse and keyboard, from my limited controller experience. Smooth mouse movements, rather than pressing a lever to move the camera rotation in jerky motions which you then have to jerk back because you went too far. Lots of keys on a keyboard mean you can quickly launch a bunch of different menus with a single button press. And some mice have haptic feedback, which would be the main outstanding benefit of a controller.

- Comment on [Game] God of War Ragnarok Has Been Announced for PC with FSR 3.1 6 months ago:
Even in the Witcher 3 where characters are supposed to be morally gray, all the protagonists, even the more evil ones like Yennefer, are attractive, and all the monsters, even the better trolls, are stereotypically ugly. The Red Riders are also ugly. It’s like ugly = bad 90% of the time with these people.
- Comment on [Game] God of War Ragnarok Has Been Announced for PC with FSR 3.1 6 months ago:
Why do these ‘realistic’ games all look the same, with stereotypically ugly monsters, and stereotypically attractive protagonists?
