- Comment on NetEase Backs Down On Requirement For Early Streamers Of ‘Marvel’ Game To Not Critique The Game 1 day ago:
Talk is cheap. Until we see action, nothing has changed.
- Comment on Activision unveil new studio working on ‘narrative AAA franchise’, days after Microsoft shut Prey and Evil Within devs 1 day ago:
I don’t know the details of gaming studio or Microsoft operations, so thanks for this.
There is one point where I have to disagree, though; MS has plenty of experience hiring for any position anywhere on the planet. It doesn’t seem plausible that lack of familiarity with the talent market is the likely reason.

Were the closed studios about to unionize or something?
- Comment on Ghost of Tsushima’s PSN login requirement will stop you playing multiplayer on Steam Deck 3 days ago:
Exactly. I’m willing to pay for a game that I actually own a copy to use as I please (within legal bounds). I’m significantly less interested in renting a game that the publisher retains full control of.
- Comment on PC classics Ultima, SimCity and Myst have been added to the World Video Game Hall of Fame 5 days ago:
Agreed on both counts. Arguably, if the rest of the Myst/D’ni stories aren’t there yet, that’s also a travesty.
- Comment on Helldivers 2 PC players will soon need to link their Steam accounts to PlayStation Network 2 weeks ago:
That’s the point. There are plenty of other great games that Dony Durant control, though. How often do people need to get burned before they learn?
- Comment on Helldivers 2 PC players will soon need to link their Steam accounts to PlayStation Network 2 weeks ago:
Since mainstream gaming is the new Facebook/Google data sucker, why do people keep buying that garbage?
- Comment on Anyone else annoyed the LittleBigPlanet 3 servers shut down? 3 weeks ago:
Never. Rent. Software.
- Comment on Former Blizzard president wants to be able to leave a "tip" after completing $70 games: "I wish I could give these folks another $10 or $20" 4 weeks ago:
Interesting read. Since he likely knows a lot of these teams, nothing is stopping him emailing them gift cards.
- Comment on Gearbox Publishing Rebrands as Arc Games After Embracer's Deal With Take-Two 5 weeks ago:
Admittedly, I haven’t played in years, but doesn’t Arc still run STO?
- Comment on Video games can boost creativity in young 1 month ago:
Interesting anecdote. Fortunately, it’s supported by research.

Anyone else think this character looks like Bradley Cooper?
- Comment on With Bungie’s reboot of their ‘90s FPS a year away, free fan revival Classic Marathon wins the race onto Steam 1 month ago:
I LOVED Marathon! And insane AI seems about right for next year 😁
- Comment on Ubisoft revealed an AI NPC prototype at GDC and everyone online made fun of it 1 month ago:
This is kind of interesting as a concept. A well-trained and well-prompted bot that could help teach in virtual worlds like Second Life or Opensim, for instance, would be really cool. But at the current state of the tech, unless it’s just an exercise in improv acting, it doesn’t seem ready to help tell stories. Can you imagine if the Consort had a nervous breakdown in Mass Effect?
- Comment on Strange Scaffold's next game is about stalking and sacrificing your neighbours to keep the world from ending 2 months ago:
Sounds like a studio run by sociopaths.
- Comment on Rockstar reportedly orders GTA 6 developers to end hybrid working in the name of "quality and polish" 2 months ago:
Glad I don’t play any Rockstar games.

Short answer: you can’t
Slightly longer answer: report it as offensive, dangerous, or porn

- Comment on How do some people "read lips"? 5 months ago:
As a linguist, I suspect that everyone lipreads to some extent as a conversation repair mechanism. Accuracy probably depends on skill and context. Family members with hearing loss are pretty good at understanding a speaker that they can see clearly, even when there’s no sound information available at all.

Honestly, you may find talking with a therapist or taking a psych class to be more helpful. Either should be able to put you in touch with RL groups that are open to discussion and information exchange.
- Comment on I am returning my Playstation Portal 5 months ago:
For gods’ sakes don’t make me the arbiter of fun!
- Comment on I am returning my Playstation Portal 5 months ago:
I assume that this is sarcasm. However, on the chance that it’s not, why would you let internet strangers determine what you think is fun?
- Comment on [deleted] 5 months ago:
LOL! Agreed!

It wasn’t your brainpower that was lacking. That was a completely valid question, and his answer should have been “I don’t know, but I can put you in touch with a colleague in computer science who can help.”
As a teaching academic, I’m sorry you had that experience. We’re not all pretentious assholes.

So no judge? How do we make sure that the jury follows the rules?

I think many of us are struggling to understand your gripe because we either don’t see it or have shifted away from it here. Or our home instances have defederated the problem.
Do you have an example to help us out?
