I’m so, so tired of seeing that fucking article by ‘ovenplayer’ over and over again. It’s not your fault, mind you, but damn do I wish that abomination would get erased from the internet.
It’s incredibly biased, missing a ton of information, and just frankly outright lies to frame the whole thing as positively towards Proton as possible, and completely skips mentioning Proton’s attempted cleanup job. Even worse, it pretends to sound neutral while doing all that to try and gaslight people into thinking it’s actually a full journalistic dive into the issue.
I’m like 90% sure it’s just Proton’s PR team creating an easy astroturf- an account that was made JUST to post that article, nothing else, created right at the same time as the Proton PR team started working on the whole issue?
The only reason it’s only 90% instead of 100% is because there’s a lot of proton apologists who think Proton supporting this shit is ‘blown out of proportion’ because they have no idea what they’re talking about, but feel personally attacked because someone isn’t supporting ‘their team.’

I mean, their security IS directly impacted by their support of a a fascist government. They’ve already happily gave over personal information of an account owner to authorities when asked- the security posture doesn’t matter when they choose to circumvent it.

People found AI config files in their public repos. When they were found, Proton deleted all discussion of it and then altered the repository history to pretend the config files were never there.
Shady, scummy behavior. They’ve tried to do the same ‘delete everything and ignore it’ when their CEO publicly praised Trump and the Republican party, and then kept doubling down in reddit and mastodon comments until someone on the PR team wrested the account away from him and started mass-deleting all of it.
- Comment on Steam Deck gets a new low-power screen-off downloads mode 1 month ago:
I actually seem to remember that back in ~wrath of the lich king (world of warcraft) Blizzard WASN’T doing this.
While blizzard had enough capacity to handle 12+million people trying to download the update because they prepped for it, the internet itself did not, and I want to say Verizon basically got its backbone DDoS’d and taken down.
Needless to say, Blizzard started breaking out it’s updates, using CDNs and cache servers, etc etc because Verizon had some very choice words (possibly coming from their legal department.)
- Comment on Nintendo shuts down Ryujinx 1 year ago:
Because none of those emulate current generation systems.
People act weirdly entitled about Nintendo product, then throw shitfits when Nintendo reacts exactly like Sony or Microsoft would to them doing the same thing.

That’s not the cause- benchmarks have been done on the matter, as you can see slightly down the comment chain. You’ve simply attributed the slow load times to what you think is the issue.

I’ve been told (haven’t done it myself) that the ps5 controller pairs extremely well with the steam deck + dock. I would ask around though- I have an actual Steam Controller that I use, myself, but I don’t think you can buy those anymore.

Usb-c port, so yes, though you may need an adapter… And a long cord.
Unless you also grab the dock, but then you also need a controller.

Yep. At some point maybe Valve will change that, but for now, it’s a great way to get a steam deck. And even if they do change/fix that later, you’re not really missing out on anything- everything will be the same speed it always was for you.

Not to mention you can just toss a 1tb SD card in, with no skills needed and only minimal cost difference.
Yes, accessing your data off an SD card is marginally slower than off an NVME ssd… but we’re talking, iirc, milliseconds. If it really bugs you later down the line, then you can upgrade the SSD.
- Comment on Exographer is a metroidvania inspired by real science - will be fully Steam Deck playable 1 year ago:
I’m glad I’m not the only one to immediately think of that.
What a weird headline.

It’s for holding onto while playing, there’s literally stickers on the machine saying to do it. The old machines even advised it during the health/safety prompts. This guy has absolutely zero fuckin idea what he’s talking about.
- Comment on First look at the new Tribes game from Prophecy Games 2 years ago:
You do, in fact, actually redo character models and other stuff for a beta release. This is early alpha, they’re using placeholder models and textures, probably from previous Tribes games, nailing the core gameplay loop before working on graphics.
This is standard practice.
