Honestly, I would back up all of your downloads, documents, pictures, videos, browser history/passwords/bookmarks, and anything else you want to save to an external drive or to The Cloud (or multiple, e.g., most/all browsers have a sync function, and OneDrive/Google Drive/Dropbox, etc.), and then download and test drive multiple different distros until you find one that you like and has good community support. Nearly all distros today will let you test it out without installing (kind of a try before you buy). Once you find one, install it while wiping the Windows install, then load your graphics drivers and Steam. Steam will handle the rest as far as running your games (some caveats apply, i.e., some multiplayer games will not work because the developers are assholes).

I always called that a
soft brick
when it could still power on, but couldn’t load the main operating system, but it could receive a reinstall of the system.Hard brick
was the one where it was permanently disabled either from powering on or was incapable of reloading the main OS without essentially “brain surgery” of the device. - Comment on There's a reason we aren't as harsh on the Steam Deck. Actually, a couple. 9 months ago:
Charts like that are great, I love to see them. However, they need to have a year for the inflation-adjusted dollars else it’s nearly meaningless when referred back to.
- Comment on True actual sailing games are underrated and a criminally underexplored genre of video game simulation... which is why Pancake Sailor is the next free game you should try! 1 year ago:
Valheim actually has a decent sail simulator.

I don’t know about pay, but the changes to the Steam store have definitely had an impact from what I can see. As a consumer, I have a hard time finding anything new or obscure. Their old store had much better controls for that (still there if you know where to look). So for exposure of devs on the store, I think Valve is either playing games or are incompetent these days, unfortunate either way.
