- Comment on Battlefield 6 releases today and it will not be playable on any Linux / SteamOS system 1 week ago:
Apparently BF6 is a rebound after 2042 being a flop. It’s not like it’s in the “Top 30 franchises ever”, but it’s apparently popular.

At least we’re in agreement not to do any business then.
Does BF6 have a single player campaign worth pirating?

So they were laid off. Corpo-speak is insane.

- Comment on Nexus Mods are set to introduce adult mod age verification for UK and EU users soon 3 months ago:
There are no current EU age verification laws on file, the DSA does not require anything like it. There is a solution in the pipe which lets people verify their ages without giving away personal info in the pipe, but it’s not even close to being implemented.
So what the hell, Nexus Mods?

- Comment on With the Legion Go S, we can now directly compare performance between official builds of SteamOS and Windows 4 months ago:
I think it doesn’t really matter, in the end the question is, do I get a better experience as a consumer on Linux or Windows?
- Comment on With the Legion Go S, we can now directly compare performance between official builds of SteamOS and Windows 4 months ago:
The big thing though about Proton is that it’s not an additional translation/emulation layer. It doesn’t translate into Spanish for Linux, as that would be slow, it makes Linux talk English.
So in your example, imagine you, the English speaking program, want to catch a taxi in Madrid/Linux but all taxi drivers speak only Spanish. An emulation layer would be “translating”, so you would have an additional guy in the taxi that you could talk to that talks to the Spanish driver. Proton is not that, it’s an English-speaking taxi driver.

The only game in the main post photo where Windows beats Linux is Spiderman 2, published by Playstation Publishing, owned by Sony.
- Comment on Apple is placing warnings on EU apps that don’t use App Store payments 5 months ago:
No it wouldn’t need to be Apple.
If a payment processor won’t comply, you can ask for a chargeback at your bank, and if it keeps happening, the payment processor can be blocked from accepting EU payments at all.

Well yeah, but has anyone tried it? If not, I’ll go and see if I can, because VR flight sims are the only thing keeping Windows in my house.

DCS has combat oriented stuff but I don’t know if it has actual missions to use the weapons.
DCS literally stands for Digital Combat Simulator, it’s a combat sim all right. The thing though is that it has a very high difficulty curve, and it’s more of a thinking game than an action one, you spend minutes setting up ground attack shots and even dogfighting is more about thinking and energy retention and stuff instead of twitchy reflex stuff.
The free DCS module is actually a pretty good one to start with, but mind the difficulty curve. While Ace Combat is like “missile incoming, turn sharp to dodge”, DCS is “boom - you’re dead”. At least in the campaign, set up the plane to drop flares constantly and stay above 4000.
