If you want to use WOL you’ll need an adapter/dock with an Ethernet port.
Then use nmcli (network manager cli) to accept magic wake-up packets: nmcli c modify “Wired connection 1” 802-3-ethernet.wake-on-lan magic
See more info here: wiki.archlinux.org/title/Wake-on-LAN
Then you just send a magic packet to your Steam Decks IP whenever you want it to wake up.
Note: if you own an OLED Steam Deck technically you can just do this over Bluetooth with a controller instead, because of the hardware update.

You can already wake the device up over LAN, USB, or Bluetooth. You could even have a separate device such as a PC or phone that sends the wake up signal to the steam deck if you wanted. I have other devices that work this way in my home already.
It’d be preferable to manage this all on device of course, but I assure you this is solvable where existing Steam Decks already reside, without needing to fix any low level firmwares.

It’d be nice if it could wake itself up, and then begin to update games while idle. When done it could just go back to sleep again if it’s still idle after some time passes.
Even better would be settings to choose auto updates from discover, the client, and any proton changes.
Surprised they don’t have anything like this after years, it’s not a particularly complex problem to solve. All of the update logic for the games already exists, it’s literally just managing the wake/sleep events that they’d need to program.

- Comment on Amazon shuts down Chime, its Zoom alternative 4 weeks ago:
I don’t know of any personally, but if someone was to develop it, the North Star should be Around imo.
It’s one of the best video conferencing apps I’ve ever used. I’ve used them all, even obscure ones you’ve probably never heard of. Miro Labs is unfortunately shutting Around down in a month though after acquiring it and folding whatever bits they wanted into their own software.

They made you use it if you ever had to talk to enterprise support for Amazon web services. It had similar vibes to WebEx conferencing. They have been dog fooding it internally for years, but Amazon doesn’t know UI/UX so this isn’t shocking to me.
- Comment on The ridiculous Steam Brick just makes me want a proper Steam Machine 1 month ago:
I have a pc part picker list for a Steam Machine that’s already done for years now.
It is built around this case: louqe.com/products/ghost-s1-mkiii
But there are several great alternative cases as well, if the all black aesthetic isn’t for you. Just building a small computer is the most affordable way to go here.
- Comment on Swapping LCD drive into new OLED 2 months ago:
I’ve cloned drives from an existing steam deck onto another brand new drive for a new steam deck. The swap you are doing should work the same without issue.
- Comment on Valve must address swastikas and other hate on Steam, writes US senator in a letter to Gabe Newell 4 months ago:
If you are concerned by fascism, I recommend calling your representatives and even writing letters to them.
In the case above, a sensible well written letter sent by an individual that was put in power to defend the interests of the American people is not fascism.
It’s important to understand what Fascism looks like. Such as every billionaire bending the knee when a politician gains power, or what we see with Musk in an invented cabinet position. The merger of government and corporate powers which will directly hurt the interests of the people in a state.

As long as we can never fully understand when or how it will turn red, and sometimes when you wrap it in towels it stops being red, I’m all for it.

Proton is the gateway drug to us getting more Linux native games. In due time!
- Comment on Nintendo shuts down Ryujinx 5 months ago:
Probably for the same reason Nintendo shuttered the stores for 3DS and Wii U over the last year. They are attempting to consolidate infrastructure, support, user base, and sales.
- Comment on Nintendo shuts down Ryujinx 5 months ago:
It is likely due to age and popularity. At this point PCSX2 is the only widely popular emulator you’ve listed, but is older, in the same way Dolphin is old and less of a concern of harming their limelight. That isn’t to say those other emulators aren’t making waves lately, but there is a window between age and popularity that makes this software a prime target. Especially emulators for current gen, which has been historically very rare, and when it did exist were no where near as good as CEMU, Yuzu, and Ryujinx were.

In my experience they are held accountable.
- Comment on Valve Working With Rockstar to Fix GTA Online on Steam Deck 5 months ago:
I agree w/ the sentiment but I haven’t heard of a dev that isn’t lit on fire from every direction at most of these companies.
It’s usually non-devs who require the encouragement. Although perhaps you meant developer more generally?
- Comment on [Discussion] SteamOS 3.6 is nearly here, with Valve focusing on bug fixes before release. What are some bugs you've encountered (on either Stable or Beta) that you're hoping to see fixed? 5 months ago:
I have these exact same issues, never heard of someone else experiencing them.
I’d say the Bluetooth issues, and the inability for me to turn the steam deck on when docked at a distance (without extras) are my biggest pet peeves right now. Otherwise I’m a happy camper.
The Home + A is annoying, but I usually get it after a few attempts.
