The question was for a dumb TV and not just any TV.
- Comment on Why won’t Steam Machine support HDMI 2.1? Digging in on the display standard drama. 1 week ago:
That one is 27". I think that’s way too small for the living room. I also consider 120hz to be overkill for some couch gaming and movies.

Do you know of any big dumb TVs or monitors that I could buy in Europe? I only know of Sceptre TVs which are mostly meant for businesses and storefronts but they are extremely hard to get in Europe.
- Comment on Proton launches privacy-first alternative to Excel and Google Sheets 1 week ago:
If you use Mullvad you get a token instead of an account. It’s not linked to any email address. You can then pay directly to this token using crypto. You can even send cash in an envelope. If you use Tor to get a token and pay, you’re as private as can be.
The thing however is that VPN providers can always see what IP address is using their service. So however private your account and payment is, in the end you always have to trust the provider that they are not logging IPs.
If you are buying from Mozilla, then both Mozilla and Mullvad get access information. This means that buying from a reseller is less private by default.

Most awful idea of a skill. It’s literally a minigame.
I stopped playing because of how undemocratic their fake “democratic voting” is. Whenever something doesn’t pass they just change a few things around and try again until they get what they want.

Ouch.
- Comment on ISP tricked customers about fiber optics being used in their internet service, German court rules — 'full fiber' customers found to have 'last mile' copper connections 1 month ago:
There’s two arguments I have against your comment:
- Fiber is fiber. If even 1% of the connection is not fiber you can’t claim FULL fiber. That’s just not correct. It’s like claiming a dish is completely vegan, ignoring the fact it includes eggs, which makes it not vegan.
- There’s definitely a difference in fiber and copper wiring. Fiber is faster and allows for more bandwidth. For most home connections this is overkill and not noticeable. But an IT guy like me definitely prefers fiber over copper.
In my country it’s illegal to call it full fiber if it isn’t 100% fiber. That’s why the ISPs found a loophole and now call it “dynamic fiber”. They made me waste a shit ton of time troubleshooting why I wasn’t getting the fiber speeds, only to see a tiny print on the bottom of some KB article that said “only for those who have full fiber” after which I had to waste even more time trying to figure out what type of connection I had. I literally bought the “fiber” pack.

If UAC bypasses weren’t left unpatched I would have kept my own one so I could reign chaos as soon as Microsoft drops it.
You know what, I’m keeping it anyways, so I can prove an argument by telling you about it.
I’m sure many malware developers have tons of exploits ready for when support is dropped.

For developers in similar situations, where the corporate overlords make your life miserable; use dead man’s triggers Instead of a simple killswitch: manually start handling certificates, introduce memory leaks that you can easily clear, have excessive disk filling logs that you can daily clear, and all kinds of other stuff that is a perpetual dumpster fire that you extinguish as part of your job. Oh, and don’t forget to forget commenting and documenting. The next developer should instantly learn the pressure they have been putting on you.

- Comment on Microsoft is moving antivirus providers out of the Windows kernel. Hopefully anti-cheat will be next 5 months ago:
I think that’s a very big stretch and I don’t think we’ll see that any time soon. Microsoft is already losing market share and they can’t do much more of this type of stuff because more and more people are getting annoyed. (Including ones with a following such as PewDiePie)
Anyways, Linux is great.
- Comment on Microsoft is moving antivirus providers out of the Windows kernel. Hopefully anti-cheat will be next 5 months ago:
You realize this’ll occur at the expense of Microsoft treating the user as an untrustworthy enemy.
What do you mean? Take away your ability to create drivers? Because it’s already extremely limited and you need to get signed. I guess this “change” would just mean not signing any new antivirus drivers.
This means modding (even for offline play) will not be allowed. Heck, even modify ini files might be viewed as “hacking”.
That’s a completely wrong take. Whether or not an anticheat runs in the kernel or not does not mean people can just go and edit their files. Even with a kernel level anticheat people can already do that if the driver is not running. The correct way is to do purity checks during connection to an online server, and only allow serverside code to update the gamestate. Any texture file hacks and local purity bypasses for those would need to be caught by the userland anticheat, like it has been done for ages. Not the best solution, but far more privacy friendly.
I agree removing the need for anti-cheat in principal sounds nice, but this means archiving games or porting them to “unsupported platforms” will be relics of the past.
Another weird take. Are you talking about the anticheat not being installable anymore? Because even if a game comes with a kernel level anticheat it would need a valid certificate, so any dead game would eventually have this problem regardless of it being allowed to install the driver. Porting games would in almost all cases get rid of the anticheat or somehow null it, disable any custom servers from forcing a valid anticheat, stuff like that. And archiving would be much easier without any anticheat at all, again regardless of kernel anticheat or userland anticheat.
MUCH better solutions against hacker are to use all this amazing machine learning stuff on the server side, put more power back into the hands of admins and their selfhosted servers, and handle reports about hackers better and faster.

- Fancy layout and theme
- Easy to understand. Receive a Discord link and it’ll ask you to download Discord or join using their web app.
- Media support (images, gifs, videos, sounds), Youtube embed, etc
- Easy to make your own server. Click 5 things and you have one.
- Voice chat with screenshare and even party games
- Free (but ofcourse they steal your data)
- Channels purely for pinning and sharing information. Including channels that look more like a forum.
- No need to remake an account on all the servers.
- And a lot more.
People want something else though because Discord is very bad privacy wise. They keep shoving their premium features in your face. Have horrible support and can ban for an out of context “i’m 10 years old”. (Even if the next message is “i’m joking”). They have been known to share information about protest organizers with governments, take an extremely long amount of time to remove malicious and predatory servers. And so much more.
People want something that can offer them the comfort of Discord, with the freedom of IRC.

- Comment on This Steam Deck mount looks silly, but greatly reduces the risk of dropping Valve's handheld on your face while gaming in bed 10 months ago:
What an overkill of a device…
I once came across some random woman who uploaded hours and hours of videos of her life on YouTube. It was just cameras in her house. She slept in the middle of the room. Extremely weird. Anyways back on topic, she had a metal arm that was mounted the end of her bed which allowed her to have her phone above her head.
Thanks for reading.
