- Comment on Danchi Days, out this October, brings the Hamtaro: Ham-Ham Heartbreak vibes I've been desperately craving since childhood 1 week ago:
Hamtaro
News overlord Edwin first wrote about Danchi Days in the now distant year of 2024
I wonder if there’s some oblique reference here to the Overlord anime.
- Comment on What're you playing right now? 2 weeks ago:
I have put almost 30hrs into the Guildrun demo. It’s a PvE autobattler in the same vein as TFT, Autochess and DOTA Underlords.
Before that I 100%'ed Wayfinder which was really a better game than I was expecting. Was pretty darn good value for £3!
Now, probably today, I’m going to try to set up my own World of Warcraft Legion server in Docker or Podman.
- Comment on Got a spare $10? Net yourself almost 150 games and help support laid off game devs with the game industry hardship fund bundle 2 weeks ago:
The games are from Itch.io. The initiative is just sponsored by Necrosoft. They’re DRM free games you download.
- Comment on Indies devs band together for 100-game, $10 bundle aiming to help an "unprecedented number" of laid off developers 2 weeks ago:
They’re DRM free downloads afaik. On Linux you would just run them with Proton by adding them to Steam/Heroic/Faugus etc I assume.

- Comment on GOG confirm they are working towards GOG Galaxy on Linux 2 weeks ago:
Yeah, I tried all the stuff I could find online by changing the working directory and also repointing the target on Steam for the installer exe to the dlc exe to make sure they use the same prefix :(
Was just easier to download from Fitgirl, add setup.exe to Steam and run it xD
- Comment on GOG confirm they are working towards GOG Galaxy on Linux 3 weeks ago:
The only thing I want from GoG for Linux is a game download in 1 file instead of many. I spent an hour today trying to install the DLC for Yakuza Like a Dragon and it just would not detect the game installation.
Ended up downloading the whole thing from Fitgirl instead because it’s better service.

Nice! You can even set up email notifications based on wishlist categories now rather than the whole wishlist.

- Comment on "It's too dangerous for us to speculate": Valve don't know if Steam Machine prices will drop in the future, after admitting that "some people are going to priced out" 1 month ago:
Yeah, I see your point. To paraphrase, it says that they have to make a profit and can’t guarantee game sales from their own store to offset any potential subsidisation.
My point is that Gaben/Valve have billions and don’t need the profit from it. So what if some people use it to play games from other stores? They’ll be in the minority for sure.
I guess everyone is too capitalism-brained to see past the profit motive.
- Comment on "It's too dangerous for us to speculate": Valve don't know if Steam Machine prices will drop in the future, after admitting that "some people are going to priced out" 1 month ago:
Sure, but the vast majority of people aren’t going to do that. I don’t think it makes sense to say they can’t do it because 5% of buyers may act in a certain way.
I agree that all these companies are super greedy, the point was that even though they’re greedy they still sell at a loss on the hardware as it ends up making them even more money.

The game store that has so much of the PC market that people call it a monopoly can’t?
That doesn’t make any sense.

The real question here is if console manufacturers can sell consoles at a loss expecting to make up the shortfall with game sales, why can’t Steam? Gabe/Steam have billions and could easily do this. The only answer I can think of is greed.

Watch this video from the guy who started the Stop Killing Games movement. Then you can stop misrepresenting what they’re trying to do.
- Comment on Stop Killing Games-backed California bill targeting online game shutdowns "isn't going to be an easy thing" to enforce, says the politician behind it 2 months ago:
That doesn’t sound fair at all. I think for many games, considerations such as this potential law will demand would have to be included in the initial design and development. There are also the potential implications for licensing of middleware etc.
Again, you cannot be expected to comply with a law that doesn’t exist yet.
There may be a case for “live-service” games that it could apply as they could be considered to be under constant development. Most of those are either subscription or free to play though which would exclude them entirely as neither is a purchase of a perpetual license.

While it might not be easy for existing games…
I can’t see why they would try to include existing games. Laws are (almost?) never retroactive. How can you comply with a law if it doesn’t exist yet?

- Comment on Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney throws shade at Valve / Gabe Newell for Steam Deck pricing 2 months ago:
Where’s the “Epic deck” Tim? Oh that’s right, after 8 years you still can’t properly make a website for buying games.
Not to stand up for Valve directly here but just to make a point (because we all know companies are not our friends) - but hold on a moment, isn’t this the same CEO who forced over 1,000 people to look for work elsewhere after laying off a whole lot of people? Yes it is. Sweeney has also been quite vocal about support for generative AI, you know - that thing driving up prices of everything everywhere. So perhaps Sweeney is not exactly the best person to be throwing shade around like this.
Well said Liam.
