NZ: am I a joke to you?

Hey, at least you made it on the map.

On the map only to be excluded from the circle

      Something something map projections.

      source
      • Wogi@lemmy.world ⁨1⁩ ⁨year⁩ ago

This is a common misconception, this circle is actually a straight line around the globe and the “inside” includes Antarctica and new Zealand. And because there’s a race of fully sentient crab people living under the kiwis and totaling 800 billion in number, the map is correct.

        Weird that they vote though

That is just an artifact of the map projection

      source
      • dirtbiker509@lemm.ee ⁨1⁩ ⁨year⁩ ago

My thoughts too. Put that back on a globe and it’s pretty damn close to a circle! Considering it’s hand drawn…

I know the author is Terrible Maps so I probably shouldn’t complain, but what are those continent colour groupings?

    source
    • beebarfbadger@lemmy.world ⁨1⁩ ⁨year⁩ ago

They’re not grouped, that’s what the planet actually looks like from space.

I wonder how many people live outside the red circle and have to commute to work within it.

    source
  • Ddhuud@lemmy.world ⁨1⁩ ⁨year⁩ ago

That is true. As far as I know,Nobody lives on my phone screen.

    source
    • xia@lemmy.ca ⁨1⁩ ⁨year⁩ ago

      Then… wouldn’t it be false?

      source
      • Ddhuud@lemmy.world ⁨1⁩ ⁨year⁩ ago

        Yeah, I misread

        source
  • EveryMuffinIsNowEncrypted@lemmy.blahaj.zone ⁨1⁩ ⁨year⁩ ago

I mean, considering this map excludes Antarctica, and there are people living (at least temporarily) in Antarctica, it is technically true.

    source
    • The_Picard_Maneuver@startrek.website ⁨1⁩ ⁨year⁩ ago

Also New Zealand, but I’ve heard that the science is still out about whether or not they actually exist.

        source
    • MissJinx@lemmy.world ⁨1⁩ ⁨year⁩ ago

How do you know? Maybe there is a race of advanced intra terrestrial humans that live under water. Also this map is missing the great wall of ice that holds the water in place.

Can “in” and “out” be meaningfully defined though, considering that circle is on a globe though?

    source
    • xia@lemmy.ca ⁨1⁩ ⁨year⁩ ago

I get the feeling that if this were on a globe, it would appear as a long, thin, and nearly empty circle.

      source
  • smuuthbrane@sh.itjust.works ⁨1⁩ ⁨year⁩ ago

How tall is the red wall? If it’s only at sea level than this is entirely false, most people’s would be above it.

    source
    • rasensprenger@feddit.de ⁨1⁩ ⁨year⁩ ago

It just goes up all the way

      source
      • smuuthbrane@sh.itjust.works ⁨1⁩ ⁨year⁩ ago

Red circle map, you were joy back in the day

  • SinJab0n@mujico.org ⁨1⁩ ⁨year⁩ ago
