- Comment on HP hasn't made an OMEN gaming handheld because of Windows, but they are open to making a SteamOS-powered handheld 1 day ago:
I’m not going to buy one but I’m always interested to see what they can make

I use Solaar on my desktop to remap gestures for a Logitech mouse, I would imagine it should work on a Deck too
- Comment on New Junk-Store update (install and play Epic Games + GOG on the Steam Deck) 1 week ago:
Heroic Launcher does them both too, probably a bit less slick though
- Comment on What are some light-hearted, feel-good, comforting games to play on the deck? 2 weeks ago:
Doronko Wanko is a short free game with a funny name about being a dog and making a mess
- Comment on Three years later, the Steam Deck has dominated handheld PC gaming 3 weeks ago:
The Steam Deck can behave like a Switch; if you want to stick to just Steam games with a big ✅ verified icon then it will probably be a similar experience, just with a different library of games (and better sales).
The Steam Deck can also be a full PC; you can plug in keyboard, mouse, screens, whatever, and use it to replace your laptop/desktop if you really want.
The middle ground is that the Steam Deck can be an incredibly versatile gaming machine. I can play the verified Steam games, I can usually play the non-verified games, I can install Heroic/Lutris and install all my free Epic/GOG/Amazon games with minimal tinkering, I can install emulators and run all my old Nintendo games at better resolutions and frame rates, and if I really feel like tinkering then I can install whatever else I want and try to get it working, but I always have all the reliable games to fall back on if I can’t!

Since I started !freegames@feddit.uk I’ve not spent a penny in the Steam sales, unfortunately my backlog is now about five times as long.
- Comment on PC game development surges in Steam Deck handheld era — But don't count Xbox and PlayStation out 1 month ago:
My thoughts exactly, it’s much easier and cheaper to make your first game for PC
- Comment on “It took 12 years of work to get here”: interview with Pierre-Loup Griffais, developer of SteamOS, the flagship OS of the Steam Deck 2 months ago:
Same, the dual-boot is there just in case but it gets less and less use as time goes by

There was a comment thread in one of the Linux communities the other day talking about this mindset. Obviously the comments got a bit rude and unconstructive, but the point is that you can switch to something like bazzite now and most things will work pretty well, but if you’re holding out until it’s perfect then you’ll be waiting forever!
- Comment on Might as well get a laptop??? 2 months ago:
I’m always a fan of companies making something new rather than the same old same old (identical black rectangles being the classic example). Yeah a lot of them are terrible but I think they get points for trying!

Stop telling me not to huff the vent!
- Comment on What are your favorite accessories for the steam deck? 2 months ago:
I think this is the one I have, but any web search for “gaming pillow” should find plenty of options
- Comment on What are your favorite accessories for the steam deck? 2 months ago:
I’ve got something I can only describe as a “gamer’s breastfeeding pillow”, it’s a sort of U-shaped pillow which you rest your arms and Deck on. Handy for a long play session if your arms get tired.
- Comment on After a year in its company, I’ve done a complete 180 on my Steam Deck 2 months ago:
I guess it’s very dependent on what you’re running the app on, and what else that device is running
- Comment on After a year in its company, I’ve done a complete 180 on my Steam Deck 2 months ago:
Didn’t they stop selling the hardware because most users already have a phone, computer, or TV which can run the Steam Link app?
- Comment on Any hints on how to connect the steam deck to the tv 2 months ago:
I think most USB-C to HDMI adapters should Just Work™, I’ve had no problems with an old Mac one
- Comment on Well that was fast, refurbished OLED Decks are now available on Steam 3 months ago:
Psh, why would I want that when I already have the ultimate CRT handheld?
- Comment on [Discussion] Steam Autumn Sale has started. What are you buying for your Steam Deck? 3 months ago:
Well I run !freegames@feddit.uk so I end up filling the backlog with freebies faster than I can play them anyway!
- Comment on [Discussion] Steam Autumn Sale has started. What are you buying for your Steam Deck? 3 months ago:
A healthy attitude to take. Having a Deck is finally letting me get through the backlog, I’m not going to start adding to it again!
- Comment on [Leak] Steam Controller 2 render thumbnail leaked in SteamVR drivers 3 months ago:
Oh that’s cool, I’d not even considered using it to control a mouse

They’re apparently worth a fair bit now if you’re looking to just get rid of it
- Comment on [Leak] Steam Controller 2 render thumbnail leaked in SteamVR drivers 3 months ago:
It did, and I think it did so very well

What’s a two-stage trigger? Analogue until it’s all the way down, then a click (like the GameCube)?

- Comment on Decky "Pause Games" plugin got rid of audio static I got resuming games from sleep 6 months ago:
Yeah I’ve had the ‘crackly audio on resume’ bug occasionally for two years now, that said I haven’t had it for a while. I thought they’d fixed it, but maybe I’ve just been lucky!
- Comment on NonSteamLaunchers is now available as a Decky Plugin 7 months ago:
I didn’t know Heroic did Amazon too, I’ve got Lutris set up for that
- Comment on NonSteamLaunchers is now available as a Decky Plugin 7 months ago:
Heroic has always been fine for GOG for me, but it just wouldn’t load any of my Epic library last time I tried to use it
