The fact that for less than $100 you could get a refurbished OLED model with the same amount of storage (512GB) is insane. If the OLED model was out and had verified refurbished models on sale back when I bought my deck, I would have absolutely done it. Not upgrading any time soon if I can help it since I love my deck, but damn it would’ve been cool to have the OLED model.

Nice! Hopefully more people will be able to enjoy these. While i loathe the “consumable” nature of OLED, it definitely looks nicer for the first year.

you can argue the “consumable nature” of li-ion batteries is likely to hit earlier than the consumable nature of oled realistically speaking.

        You can just change it

… what is consumable about OLED exactly?

An outdated idea that oled burns in quickly.

Modern oled technology is amazing, but some people forget LCDs also burn in (albeit slower).

Seems like they don’t sell replacement OLED screens yet either, which is a shame. Especially since they’ve been so good with replacement parts.

OLED screen replacements already exist on iFixit who is the repair partner for valve.

Dumb question, but where is the buying button or even the price for these? I’m curious to see how much cheaper it is refurbished.

Near the top of the page that this post is linking to.

      • 512 GB: 569€ > 459€

Oh? I don’t see that on my page.

Must be a regional thing, we only got the Steam Deck released two weeks ago here in Australia. So I guess maybe a few more years we can get a refurb.

They’re all sold out. Holy crap. Also, I’m holding off on buying the OLED. I want to wait for the Deck 2. They’re also releasing a steam console.

Unfortunately Deck 2 timing is unknown right right now, haven’t had any leaks suggesting that we’ll be getting it soon. We know Valve is releasing SteamOS for more devices, starting with Lenovo handhelds, but it’s not clear if we’ll see SteamOS for any non-handhelds in the immediate future.

We are getting a new Steam Controller soon, which I’m hyped about.

I do have the LCD one and I’ll hold on to it until whenever they release the deck 2. That’s what I meant. I’m actually not in a hurry.

For that, you can get bazziteOS. It’s a copy of it with even better performance. In case you’re thinking of building a steam console. :)
