And they allow the fake science channels too. There are lots of them with millions of views. They are as bad as the Batboy or bigfoot type tabloid newspapers in the grocery store.

You can make a YouTube video about literally anything, yes. That is the entire point of YouTube.

Spreading lies and misinformation should not be a business model. If businesses can't make policy to correct this, then the government should, and that opens up a lot of issues.
superduperenigma@lemmy.world 1 year ago
That’s completely false. There are plenty of things that are not allowed to be on YouTube already, and there’s always room to discuss what additional topics should be excluded from the platform.

How did this get 80 upvotes lol
“YouTube doesn’t police these random one-video channels I’ve found with 28k views”! What a scandal!
KuroiKaze@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Yeah it’s almost like they are running maybe the complex site to ever exist on the Internet. Report it using the tools available.

They have algorithms that remove content that mentions (or has text that mentions) certain key terms, and adds notes to anything that mentions climate change, covid or the holocaust. They can do the same for this but wont.
AnonTwo@kbin.social 1 year ago
Would you put this on the same importance of "must use algorithim known for false positives" as Climate Change, Covid, or the Holocaust?
Pretty sure they put a vtuber in the covid panels, it was a joke for awhile...if they were in the algorithim you want, they'd of been banned.

At absolute minimum, it’s a nothing-channel with no views that hasn’t been picked up by their system.
Secondly, selling dumb bullshit isn’t illegal. There are lots of conspiracy theory videos on YouTube, and those are all dumb bullshit. Hell, Loose Change is almost certainly all over YouTube still

The profit from this single 28k view videos surely must be massive! It’s clear that youtube is totally complicite and probably not because it’s some minor fringe issue that flies under the radar.
ToeNailClippings@lemmy.world 1 year ago
What is the video advertising…? Did you even look at that? Its not the views of that video that are the problem… 🤦♂️
theKalash@feddit.ch 1 year ago
Yes I did but it’s irrelvant. Should the channel be removed? Sure.
But your conclusion that youtube must be “refusung” to delete these channels or is profiting of them is ridiculous. The much less dumb explaination is that it’s a simple moderation oversight, which can happen on a platform that gets over 3 million new video uploads a day …

I mean, look at their handle. It’s not like this is the handle for Famezen, they’ve clearly already had their account removed before. Report function needs someone to use it for it to be able to work, right?
ToeNailClippings@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Its what is called a proxy-promotion. Technically against YT policy.
FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Of course they profit from it. They don’t care who views the videos or even if it is a real person. All they care about is metrics they can feed to advertisers.

Got to be it.
