Ideally, enough for the development to be profitable, with a little bit extra to help start funding development on the studio’s next game.
That’s a big reason why AAA is unsustainable, and trying to increase their prices to make up for it. It’s a lot harder to have development be profitable when you have to pay 5,000 people than when it’s only 50.

Honestly, I've paid less for incredible games sold by small independent gaming studios and even individuals, than for big gaming studios' established IP games that weren't that innovative or fun. 80$ for a game is quite a commitment. 50$ is more reasonable. 20-30$ is a good range.
Personally I'm always waiting for sales to get my games as cheap as possible.

I buy and play games on sales most of the time. So its not the newest hot shit I get. Especially cool with Steam sales. There are even “blockbuster” titles I would never buy for fullprice as a 75% sale in example. Suddenly those titles come in range of an indie price and that’s affordable to me. And yes I buy and play indie games too. They do not have an issue with pricing usually and often they are even self contained games without micro transactions, at least most of them.
