- Comment on Microsoft is moving antivirus providers out of the Windows kernel. Hopefully anti-cheat will be next 1 week ago:
Not trolling at all. I’m a game developer, so I was curious to hear about instances of game devs using kernel level anticheat to harvest people’s personal (and identifiable) data to sell to data brokers.
Glad to know there aren’t any examples of it outside of people screaming about capitalism - which is, let’s be honest, quite indicative of the Lemmy experience these days.

So by that logic we shouldn’t be downloading any precompiled binaries from the net - they could all be spying on us!

Can you name an instance of a game company doing that?
- Comment on Hunt: Showdown 1896 is back online with its 2.4 update after Crytek rolled it back because it was so broken 3 weeks ago:
Poor Crytek… They worked /ended up working all night long and through a holiday.
Say what you want about game bugs and how annoying they might be for players, but teams sacrificing like this to fix a mistake is something I’ll always have sympathy for.
Hope they can get some rest 😅

Completely reasonable
- Comment on Steam Controller 2 is apparently a thing and being 'tooled for a mass production' plus a new VR controller 7 months ago:
Sweet mother of god, yes: my body is ready for another Steam controller.
- Comment on [Discussion] New month, new games. What are you playing on your Deck? - February 2024 1 year ago:
Lies of P is great on the Deck, been churning through that. Highly recommended if you enjoy Soulslikes.
- Comment on The Steam Point shop has a collection of new Deck startup movies, including ones themed for Elden Ring, Hades, Persona 5, and Vampire Survivors. 1 year ago:
They’re nice and all, but City Night’s still the best ;_;
- Comment on The Steam Deck's budget price tag is the reason I still rate it nearly two years on 1 year ago:
The latency is so low I don’t notice it at all. Weird that you’re having problems.
My ps5 is hooked up to the router via an ethernet cable, and I use a 5 Ghz network to play on. Never had any issues and never required any tweaking (played most of Jedi: Survivor with this setup).

My laptop’s SSD died a while back, so I sent it away for repairs (yay, MSI’s warranty).
In that brief period without a PC, my Steam Deck was a god send - used it as my main machine for 4 days. Was even able to work on it.
That’s such a crazy addition to the value proposition, for me - totally makes it worth it.
Also, being able to play PS5 games in bed via Chiaki is delicious.

Yes, by me. Many times.
- Comment on If iFixit starts selling steam motherboards, can you buy just a motherboard and make a console-only steamdeck? 1 year ago:
Awesome, thanks for the info - will try it out soon. This’ll make streaming to my Steam Link much easier

Wait… It can do that? Holy fucking shit. I had no idea…

I would fight a baby penguin for a Steam Controller v2; it was (and still is - I have 2) the best controller I have ever used.
