Well, if you actually want to invest some time in learning, Arch is great for that, while also being awesome distro. Some say that you should NEVER use it for your first time with Linux, but I disagree. You should never use it if you have short attention span and unable to read, but if that’s not the case, you’re good to go.
My recommendation is to not try to learn everything at once. Burn archiso on USB stick, boot into it, use
archinstall
to get in set up easily, and then search ArchWiki for topics of your interest, for instance the installer won’t install printing support, but if you google “archwiki printing” the very first result you get is CUPS page with basically all that you need to get printing up and running.During the installation there might be some choices that aren’t entirely clear. For example which graphics drivers to use - it depends on your hardware, if you’re on Intel or AMD graphics, simply select “all open-source” and for nvidia there different choices. If you get to choose option for audio, Pipewire is the best choice. For profile choose desktop and select the one you want. If you don’t know, I highly recommend KDE Plasma, but you might also like GNOME if MacOS is your thing. For networking use NetworkManager for easy integration with your desktop.
I also recommend installing Flatpak and use it as primary source for installing apps, rather than defaulting to system packages.
It might take more effort with Arch to get something functional, but it is more rewarding as you can get exactly the setup you want and can learn a lot.

Even SD is too big for me after all. Would be nice to have a handheld with the exact power as SteamDeck, but compact

Heroic Games Launcher supports GoG pretty well. You can install it with Flatpak using Discover in desktop mode.
When you login to GoG and install a game, you will be able to “Add it to Steam” (top-right hamburger menu in game’s view) and it should then be available in your “Non-steam games” in gaming mode.
Other options are Bottles and Lutris

There were some recent fixes to Steam VR but I have never tried a VR headset myself. It should work on Wayland with a compositor that supports DRM-leasing protocol, so basically everything but GNOME.

Azure stuff (like az CLI tool) is generally available on Linux, I used it to provision services using Terraform. Things like .NET or MSSQL all have official support on Linux now.

Dear Valve, stop telling me what to do. And no, I won’t wear a hat on a windy day either

Just wait for Plasma 6.0, it’s already there available out-of-box
- Comment on Why would I want to use the multi-desktop functionality in Windows 11? 1 year ago:
It’s a feature that Microsoft was very late to rip off from other platforms. I’ve been using it in different Linux/UNIX graphical environments for ages.
You can think about it as a way to organize your windows by splitting them into groups. If you work on multiple things and require to have many windows opened simultaneously, you can make your desktop less cluttered. You can then switch between the desktop by swiping laptop touchpad (with 3 or 4 fingers), or hitting some keyboard combo.
I also use them kind of instead traditional task switcher. I’ve got one browser window maximized on workspace 1, fullscreen terminal on 2, mail and messengers on 3, even more apps on 4. It’s like multi monitor functionality with just one screen.

From the issues that I encountered:
plasmashel has some artifacts leaving traces after cursor move when blur is enabled (as default)
plasmashell sometimes freezes
Weird frame sync glitches (past frames cross with more recent ones). happens on any compositor when framerate goes below refresh rate

Yes, I tested it. Some issues were fixed, but it’s far from being complete

Not going to happen until NVIDIA proprietary drivers work well in Wayland
- Comment on Steam Deck as a laptop replacement? 1 year ago:
Deck is great value, and as a general purpose PC it’s more than capable, but the main focus should be on how are you going to use it. Laptop has the benefit of being one piece thing that you can grab on a public transportation or any other place and you get access to your usual PC stuff with full blown keyboard. If you need to finish your essay before arrival, you can do so. However, if you want a laptop to game on, it will be either chunky (which defeats the portability argument) or expensive. Also, while having Deck, you can still access your notes, scans, books etc everywhere from the comfort of Deck’s gamepad.

If you watch such content, the algorhythm immediately puts you in a bubble so that you binge more of the same thing. That being said, the popularity of Linux in gaming context is increasing, but such a big bump is actually kind of suspicious
