Yeah, OP, based on my experience with the Deck, for a vast majority of games you can just go to the ingame pause screen, press power button to “sleep” the Deck, and then resuming later has no impact.
There are a few games that maybe had audio issues or something after resume but nothing major if your main concern was simply avoiding losing progress.
- Comment on I was recently gifted a Steam Deck for Christmas! If you only had a budget of, let's say 50 bucks, what would you get? 5 weeks ago:
I recommend getting some indie and pixel art style titles instead of just going for AAA. Reason being many of these are cheaper ($5-10, sometimes even less) so you can try different genres, and these titles also tend to sip battery so you will get lots of gameplay time.
Examples I have enjoyed, in no particular order- Animal Well Celeste Stardew Valley Vampire Survivors Caveblazers Balatro Slay the Spire
- Comment on Microsoft detail 'agentic AI' plan for Windows 11, immediately admit it might install malware on your PC 2 months ago:
Even assuming the OS-integrated AI is 100% non-nefarious in what it is doing at a given moment, the fact that its a proprietary blackbox is still a problem for me.
Mega corp using my electricity and CPU cycles to perform “???” computational task with no transparency to the actual owner of the hardware and the individual paying the power bill. Fuck that.
- Comment on India bans streaming apps you’ve never heard of — but millions watch 6 months ago:
People forget what a ridiculously large steaming market India is.
The second biggest YT channel by subscriber base is T-Series.
- Comment on Nintendo shuts down Ryujinx 1 year ago:
Yeah, this is dumb.
I own original hardware and buy 100% of my games but sometimes you just wanna run games that aren’t originally crossplatform on your Steamdeck for convenience, or on a PC with resolution upscaling, or for ease of streaming the gameplay, or tons of other legitimate reasons.
Nintendo has some great IP and gameplay, and I guarantee you their sales are not meaningfully hurt by people who pirate/emulate games. Those people were never their customers anyway. If anything the emulation community enabled streamers to boost the popularity of their games. (People like PointCrow did more for the sustained popularity of BOTW than all of Nintendo’s marketing efforts combined)
- Comment on Safe to say peanuts into a US school too? 2 years ago:
Many theaters I’ve been to in the US stopped enforcing the “no outside food” thing. Last time I went to the movies there were dudes walking in with Chipotle or sub sandwiches and no one cared.
- Comment on [Question] Anyone know if those Miscro sd cards work well on the Steam Deck? 2 years ago:
I have had good luck with these. One has been in my Deck for 6+ months, with about 1/2 my library on it. Load speeds etc. have been decent.
- Comment on Finally got white shell ☺️ 2 years ago:
Front shell swap is supposedly a bitch because you have to do the heatgun or blowdryer thing to loosen your screen adhesive while also avoiding melting other parts of the Deck.
- Comment on Everything Should Be As Easy to Upgrade As the Steam Deck - Wired 2 years ago:
Good points and well taken. For what it is worth I have probably 1000 hours on my Deck since purchase and the springs in the sticks seem a little worn (subjective feel) but I haven’t had any drift issues yet.
If it becomes an issue I will get hall effect sticks and replace them as a wear item like tires on a car.
- Comment on Top 20 Steam Deck games of August 2023, by hours played 2 years ago:
Honestly I know the Deck can run recent and current AAA titles but I generally have had just as much fun playing low-demand games like Stardew, Dead Cells, Caveblazers, etc.
