I think the amd_p_state is not available on any Zen 2.
- Comment on Steam Deck gets a Battery Charge Limit control in the latest Beta 1 day ago:
The problem is that the Steam Deck APU doesn’t support amd_p_state and you need to rely on auto_cpufreq. This explains why the power consumption in sleep is so high.

I implemented the same on my laptop with tlp. It is actually pretty easy to do so.
- Comment on Is upgrading the ssd easy enough that it is worth the cost savings? 1 week ago:
Absolutely, the best upgrade you can make.
- Comment on Here's the most played Steam Deck games for April 2025, Balatro still top but Oblivion Remastered sneaks in second 1 week ago:
I just wish the SD was a bit more powerful. Recently especially with those UE5 games we need to install some custom scripts just to make them playable and usually they don’t even look good. I love the Deck, but Steam should really update the APU.

How did you do that? Did you re-format Steam Deck?
- Comment on Should I say fuck it and buy a steam deck now? Before all the tariffs hit. 4 weeks ago:
Keep in mind that a lot of things will become a lot more expensive for you in the next few months. It really depends on your financial situation and job security but I would say unless you have a big surplus and have built a comfortable emergency fund, do not spend extra on not essential stuff.

The Witcher is amazing, highly recommend it, especially if you are into RPGs with meaningful story
- Comment on Persistent packages on Steam Deck using Nix 5 months ago:
I am pretty sure your PC doesn’t block ICMP requests and you can get the MAC address of the IP address using the
arp
command and then check the first three octets against the MAC vendors database. This is all possible in Bash but the script will be slightly more complicated and will involve three different tools, ping, arp, curl.
But I am sure you know how to check your PC IP address anyway.
- Comment on Persistent packages on Steam Deck using Nix 5 months ago:
One comment though, you are moving the
bashrc
andbash_profile
instead of copying it. So consider fixing it in your instructions. You could have also run a for loop and ping all the IPs in your subnet. Something like this will work:
for i in {1..254}; do ping -c 1 -W 1 192.168.1.$i &> /dev/null && echo 192.168.1.$i; done
Presuming that your subnet is 192.168.1.0/24. This command will loop through all the IPs in this network and only print the one that are alive.
I didn’t know that Steam have added an exception for
/nix
which is pretty cool. Thanks for sharing - Comment on [Discussion] What games are you playing on your deck? - December 2024 5 months ago:
You are up for a treat. This game if phenomenal

Mad Max, snatched it for 2 bucks during the sale. Pretty good and chill game and well worth its price.

You can easily upgrade the internal storage. I bought a 512GB OLED and exchanged the storage to 2Tb.
- Comment on Valve still waiting on a 'generational leap' for Steam Deck 2 - but it's coming 6 months ago:
But why limit this to console only, when this will be a full featured PC that can do so much more. Plus there are plenty of open source streaming tools like Moonlight and sunshine that can stream your game directly to your TV. You have Jellyfin for media streaming etc.

- Comment on [Discussion] Double discussion this month, what games did you buy for your Deck during the Steam Sale, and what are you playing on Deck right now? - July 2024 10 months ago:
Yes, it is a cool little game, definitely worth the consideration for experienced and beginner programmers.

I bought two games:
- The farmer was replaced - a simple Idle game, where you need to use a Python like code to automate a farming bot that is doing the farming for you and the complexity of the tasks is increasing progressively. This game is in early access and has no discount but the price is 7€, so hardly breaking the bank.
- European Truck Simulator 2 - because it was just 2€ and it looks chill, even though I am not much into car racing games.

I just wonder why people are torturing themselves with BG3 on the Deck. I started playing it but decided not to ruin my experience and switched to a PC

I don’t think that Rog Ally is very successful though. Do you have some sales numbers? And releasing a new model every year will add complexity as they will need to support different hardware platforms, etc.
I also agree that it would have been great if the Deck had more oomph, but they do compensate with great software support and real dedication on their side.

Isn’t it what Apple is doing? They downclock some of their components to extend battery life and make their machines run less noisy, which in my opinion is a clever move. As much as I hate Apple, I have to admit that their hardware is good.
- Comment on Never use 3rd Party USB-Hubs! 1 year ago:
And I have good news for you. Most likely there is nothing wrong with your Deck. askubuntu.com/…/plugged-power-but-pending-charge-…. Check what this
pending-charge
state means. People are saying to simply wait for 5-10 minutes and see if it will start charging and also recommend to leave it to discharge more, as it might be some battery preservation mechanism. - Comment on Never use 3rd Party USB-Hubs! 1 year ago:
To be honest I doubt your issue has anything to do with the hub. Maybe it is connected with your USB-C port. You can also try to connect a charger and check the battery stats in the Konsole.
upower -i /org/freedesktop/UPower/devices/battery_BAT1
This should give you the status of the battery and it’s health and whether it is charging or not.
Worth noting here is that you should try to connect with different chargers and cables to exclude problem with the charger/socket/cable.
My guess is that the charging port got loose or the connection between the port and your motherboard is broken. So it should be fairly easy to get fixed in any phone repair shop for not too much
