I live in Canada on the west-coast. I waddled onto the beach and stole found a computer that I could use.
NOTE: Some of the communities I’m moderating are open if you want to take them over :)

I’m moderating a handful of communities, and I’ve done so on Reddit for a long while as well.
It’s generally not a good practice to stop people from discussing how things are run. If the criticism is unfounded, the mods or users can reply with why. If the criticism is valid, then it’s a good way to improve the community. What people don’t like is when mods use their power to remove criticism
Some cases where it might be ok to remove the posts might be
- the user is posting in bad faith and breaking some other rule (ex. complaints about the removal of rule breaking content, or if content in the meta post is hateful, etc.)
- the subreddit has very strict post format rules. In this case, there should be some other way to talk about the issues, such as regular meta threads or a separate meta community
In this case, I don’t think removing the post helped much. It was a low stakes discussion and the movie/TV communities on here are already very small.
It might be nice now if the mod leaves a comment about why the other post was removed, and what they’d suggest instead

This depends on how good Lemmy search is, but could we have a tag in the post title that people can search by? Similar to what flairs/tags would allow for
[Review] Title of movie
Users can edit that tag into the title after being reminded, but it would also be a lot more work to enforce. I left my vote with the new community option

- Comment on If I add baking soda to lemon juice and water or use carbonated water is the carbon the same as the CO2 in the atmosphere? 1 year ago:
Also CO2 is a natural part of the carbon cycle. It’s still needed and used by the nature around you.
Advocate for change, but enjoy your lemonade :)

- Comment on Will there be power issues if I plug an unpowered USB hub into a powered on or vice versa 1 year ago:
Putting the powered hub second means that it doesn’t need to pull power through the unpowered hub, and it should be fine right be used as normal.
I might be misunderstanding, but wouldn’t this still be a problem?
Computer |- unpowered hub |-powered hub |-power hungry device
- Comment on What does it look like for a YouTube creator when the audience uses something like NewPipe or Freetube? 1 year ago:
How are views calculated? I think I remember that you need to watch X% of a video for it to register as a view, so some of the comments here may be off
- Comment on What does it look like for a YouTube creator when the audience uses something like NewPipe or Freetube? 1 year ago:
I’ve heard anecdotally that they don’t get paid when the ads are blocked. I assume there’s some kind of confirmation built into the process?
I’m curious about the specifics too though
- Comment on Is there any reason to not have built in scheduling on social media? 1 year ago:
Gmail has something similar, instead of the post going out when you click post you can set it to go live at a certain time
I know friends have used the third party schedulers when promoting events on Instagram, where the posts needed to go out at a certain time (ex. releasing tickets at a certain time for fairness). Others might want to post right around when people are likely to be looking at their phones.
There is also a similar service for Reddit, and now for Lemmy: schedule.lemmings.world , where mods can schedule reoccuring posts (ex. TV shows, weekly events)
