- Comment on Does anyone else use their steam deck as a PC? How's it? 1 week ago:
When I travel I take the deck and a Bluetooth keyboard with a trackpad. It works fine as a laptop in a pinch. With an external monitor it’s a perfectly serviceable PC.

The western companies are too focused on the next quarterly earnings report to be able to formulate any sort of vision for the future. Which is not in any way surprising because that’s just the way the system is set up. But it would be the job of governments to set the agenda here, which they’ve been failing miserably at.

Does that mean we’re getting a new one soon? One can dream.

Yes.

Sure, but at some point it’ll be just too outdated.
- Comment on 1 month ago:
The steam deck is getting long in the tooth and will increasingly have trouble playing newer titles. In PC gaming, you can’t have console-like product cycles.
- Comment on 1 month ago:
Time for a successor, though. Sometimes I think Valve really doesn’t like money. They could make a crapton by bringing out a new Steam Deck and a Steam console.
- Comment on A massive Wyoming data center will soon use 5x more power than the state's human occupants - but no one knows who is using it 1 month ago:
Don’t worry. The power will be provided by imaginary nuclear reactors.
- Comment on Desktop Linux distros similar to Steam OS? 3 months ago:
Well i haven’t tried Bazzite, but you’re selling it really well. I agree that Mint is a bit behind in Wayland support and they should get on with it. On the other hand, none if those things are really very relevant for day to day use. As long as you stick to the software center and update manager in Mint, you won’t have any trouble installing software or applying updates.
- Comment on Desktop Linux distros similar to Steam OS? 3 months ago:
If you want to get started with Linux, I’d recommended Mint. It’s very easy to install and will run on just about anything. The Cinnamon desktop is pretty similar to Windows and you’ll feel right at home. Install Steam and start playing your games, it’s that simple. There are of course plenty of other excellent options but for ease of getting started, I don’t think anything beats Mint.

- Comment on SpaceX Starship blows up twice in a row. 6 months ago:
Sure, but that is a valid concern nonetheless. One major reason for the early successes of SpaceX and Tesla was their ability to attract top talent. I don’t think anyone with any self respect wants to work there these days.

- Comment on New Steam Console Powered by RDNA 4 Might Be in the Works at Valve 7 months ago:
But not as powerful as the average gaming PC. If you take a mini ITX board, an every level Ryzen processor and something like an RX 7700 that would make a pretty cool system. If you manage to sell that for under $600, you have a winner.
- Comment on New Steam Console Powered by RDNA 4 Might Be in the Works at Valve 7 months ago:
If you want to sell a Steam console, it has to do 4k pretty well, because that’s what TVs have these days. An APU won’t cut it for that, you’ll need a discrete GPU.

Is that on Steam? I’ve been trying to find a chess game on Steam but haven’t had any success yet. If it’s not on Steam, how do you install it?
