Yes I’m aware the added information is fake, but I don’t care cause it still looks better than SDR. The additional fake details especially look good in the highlights. Clouds are a lot more realistic, for one. There’s almost as much brightness information as real life clouds.

HDR is not “trivial and minor”. It’s a make or break feature for me. I use it every day.
- Comment on Root cause for why Windows 11 is breaking or corrupting SSDs may have been found 2 days ago:
Games and YouTube. HDR makes them so much better.
Like I said to the other person, I didn’t spend $1800 on a high-end OLED for no reason. I want to hear able to use every feature it has.

Yes, really. HDR is a make or break feature for me.
I didn’t spend $1800 on a high-end OLED, only to be unable to fully utilize every feature I paid for.

Been there, done that.
Fix the shitty, half-assed HDR support first, then I’ll switch. It’s bare-bones and barely functional in Linux. On Windows you can even convert SDR YouTube videos to HDR in real time, right within Firefox. Linux doesn’t have anything like that yet.
- Comment on How do you make the most of GamePass on SteamDeck? 1 week ago:
OP said they want to play multiplayer games, which are sometimes crackable, but more often not.
- Comment on Imgur's Community Is In Full Revolt Against Its Owner 1 week ago:
I think it’s just VPN usage cause I block their attempts to send my data to third parties like Meta, Google, and Mixpanel—yet I can browse Imgur just fine in both Firefox and in the app.
- Comment on Imgur's Community Is In Full Revolt Against Its Owner 1 week ago:
I use it daily and never have an issue. I wish there was a better site I could use cause it amazes me how often the app attempts to send my personal data to Meta. But unfortunately Lemmy alone isn’t enough to satisfy my need for fresh content ever since I left reddit during the API bullshit.
- Comment on New rumor suggests Valve's Steam Deck 2 is much further away than we thought 1 week ago:
I’m fine with this if it means they’re shooting for no-compromise 1440p 120hz with ray tracing this time around. That’s the only way I’d consider a Steam Deck. Otherwise it’s little more to me than just a neat novelty for people who want to get into PC gaming but can’t afford to. I rather just game on my desktop.
- Comment on Planning on buying a SteamDeck. What should I know before purchasing? 3 weeks ago:
Agree 100%. Steam Deck is great for people with no money who still want to get into PC gaming. Everyone else should build a PC or buy a laptop.

I use it to Google things because modern search engines are garbage compared to how they used to be a decade and a half ago. The AI use (Perplexity) cites its sources, so I can verify what is fact and what is made up slop.

Probably. I’m 38 and use it daily.

- Comment on Windows seemingly lost 400 million users in the past three years — official Microsoft statements show hints of a shrinking user base 2 months ago:
Ever since switching to a foldable and buying a smart TV, I feel this. Things I used to rely on a computer for I can now easily do using my pocket tablet or TV instead.
Back in 2022 I spent $4K building my dream machine, yet I hardly use it. As someone who used to be glued to a PC all day, every day, I thought I’d never see the day where I can go several days in a row without my computer and not even miss it. But the only time I fire up my PC now is to spin some tunes on the turntables, play a game, edit a video, or work on my website. For everything else, the phone or the smart TV will suffice.

- Comment on HDMI 2.2 will be announced next month — and it may require a new cable 8 months ago:
I would use DisplayPort if display manufacturers would put them on decent sized screens! I compute from the couch (because fuck back-breaking office chairs) and I have yet to find a display larger than 32" with a DisplayPort. They’re all HDMI-only.
- Comment on HDMI 2.2 will be announced next month — and it may require a new cable 8 months ago:
Hasn’t that always been the case when the standard is updated? I’ve already had to upgrade HDMI cables several times over the past 20 years.
- Comment on [Leak] Steam Controller 2 render thumbnail leaked in SteamVR drivers 9 months ago:
Well that’s better than nothing so I’ll take it.
I’m just glad that Valve is bringing back the Steam controller. So sick and tired of boring, uninnovative Xbox and Playstation controllers. I like the idea of toggle switches under the controller that aren’t just remaps of existing buttons, and actually usable touchpads.
- Comment on [Leak] Steam Controller 2 render thumbnail leaked in SteamVR drivers 9 months ago:
God dammit, why will nobody bring back 6 button pads? I’m so sick and tired of having to buy a separate controller just for fighting games. This controller would be absolutely perfect if it just had two more buttons…

No problem; the first one is under the hood on the right, and the second one is in the driver’s side footwell.
Now let me out please.
- Comment on An OLED Mod For The Original Steam Deck Is Being Made - Steam Deck HQ 10 months ago:
Shit like this is why I won’t buy another handheld console again until we they can smoothly run the latest games at at least 1440p 240hz (I was initially going to say 4K but 1440 is enough for a small screen IMO).
I don’t care if it takes a decade or more, I’m happy with my desktop; I’ll wait.
- Comment on Gaming 2024 10 months ago:
Office chairs cause back pain, just like gaming chairs.
What you really want is a nice recliner and a big TV. Keyboard in lap, mouse on arm rest (or end table). I’ve been computing this way since 2008 and I’ll never go back to a desk ever again.
- Comment on There's a reason we aren't as harsh on the Steam Deck. Actually, a couple. 11 months ago:
4K 120Hz is my minimum acceptable standard these days, as I’ve stated earlier. 1080p120 minimum for handhelds.
- Comment on There's a reason we aren't as harsh on the Steam Deck. Actually, a couple. 11 months ago:
That’s the point I’m making. They’re too cheap for proper gaming.
- Comment on There's a reason we aren't as harsh on the Steam Deck. Actually, a couple. 11 months ago:
Neither of them are capable of true 4K 120Hz+ gaming, so until then I’ll stick with my PC.
