Comment on We're inching closer to the Steam Frame release with a SteamOS Manager update
Bongles@lemmy.zip 1 day agoIt sounds like the machine will have a few versions, presumably just different specs so that’s up in the air. With the stocking issues that I’m sure will affect all 3 I don’t expect any kind of bundle right away so 99 USD for the controller. The frame has more going for it than my hp reverb g2 and that was 600 years back. I’d have to assume at least 1000, maybe upwards of 1500?
So maybe 2600 on the upper end if I guess the machine is 1000? I don’t know though because ram is still sky high so my brain isn’t wired for that.

I would be extremely surprised if the frame costs more at lanuch than the index, which was $1000.

I went higher in my guess than I would’ve just because the state of things at the moment. I would love it if I was wrong since I plan on getting one. If I ignore that I probably would’ve guessed around 800-1100.

Why is that? I would think so e compute being included kind of makes inherently more expensive

Economies of scale plus a few years for the VR market to mature. Plus no lighthouses

Yeah, but the Index had 2 ~$150 lighthouses. Not that $300 is enough to cover the cost of the compute, but it’s one area of “savings” compared to the Index.
