Opt out is not real.
This will remove the widget entirely. If you think you might actually like the widget’s other features (calendar, weather, and news), you can “X” out a particular ad, and it won’t pop up again. But then you’ll get another ad.
$2000 fridges with ads; $3000 beds searing you because the cloud was unreachable; capitalism sure is nice.
Those people should have just slept in their fridge, problem solved!
We did this to ourselves. It should have never gotten to this point.
Even the writers of that show would not have predicted the path of tech bros today.

Ever considered getting into phallic object detection?
lol. Imagine waking up one morning and being like “I want a smart fridge that connects to the internet” couldn’t be me.
lol
I do not, and will never, own a $2,000 Samsung smart fridge. Anybody who intentionally buys one of these things has an iffy brain. You do not need the tiktok fridge. It is okay to not be drowning in digital sounds and images for a scant few minutes of your day. Spend thirty seconds alone with your thoughts while you fetch a yoghurt from the fridge. You do not need an internet fridge. It will not keep your carrots any colder.
Not a chance! Because, you see, I do not own a $2,000 Samsung smart fridge!
I refuse to buy any smart appliances.
That’s fair
The issue here isn’t smart appliances. It is Samsung being a jerk.
I can see genuine reason for a fridge to be smart.
Check what’s in whilst shopping, automatic recipe suggestions, notifications for product potentially going out of date…
All of that would be nice, if fully automated, but that would require a ton of cameras and sensors, and frankly doesn’t seem worth it yet for the prices that would yield, even assuming the integration is good and offers local-only option (for proxying or vpns).
Had many reasons not to buy a smartphone from them when the time comes, just another one now.
Keep building your company’s fame guys… /s

Why do you need a screen on a fridge? It’s literally just a cold box.

It could be really useful. I would love to have the weather and maybe a to do list on the fridge.
The problem is when companies reach there hand into the software. I want to have full control of a smart appliance.

Get a magnetic case for a tablet and stick it to the fridge. If it starts showing ads, you can take it off, put it through the wood chipper and the fridge will still work fine.

You have one of those in your pocket at all times…. We really did this to ourselves.

Cupboard doors are too high; dishwashers are too low; ovens have too many windows; countertops are too horizontal; and the backsplash is too far away.
As far as surfaces where screens could go, a fridge is a pretty good contender. I don’t have anywhere else in my kitchen I could put a dedicated screen. When I’m following a recipe, I just pop a tablet on the windowsill.

Your last sentence kind of defeats the entire rest of your comment. If it’s just suppposed to be a built-in screen for following recipes in your kitchen, it’s better to get a cheap tablet because you can also use it elsewhere for other things.

Of you don’t have a tv, you can just take off the fridge door, turn it sideways, and use it as one… very useful!
