  It really seems like valve should have a policy that if your game drops support for a platform you have to offer a refund

    Even if it’s past the “no questions asked” refund policy of 2 hours or 14 days, nothing stops people from requesting one. Valve’s support is generally pretty good, so they might even grant it for cases like this.

    If you have already played the game beyond the refund window then it is considered that you already got the value from the game. I can see why they don’t do this.

    THAT BEING SAID: you should remember that Ubisoft did this and be sure never to give them any of your money again. Ubisoft is run by fascist bullies who do not respect you and do not honor their commitments. Why the fuck should anyone ever do business with them again? Their games aren’t THAT good.

    And this should be a lesson to ANY company that does this, not just gaming.

    Society is currently capitalist, for better or worse. Your wallet is the only vote you have.

    I have been doing so for some time, my last ubisoft game was Farcry-6 which is a step down compared to the previous.

  Okay now if i bought that game on steam to play on linux, would i get a refund?

  i have a similar problem with titan quest. they discontinued the linux version and now i have a game i cant play.

    Unless the developers voluntarily give out refunds (see Rust), don’t expect Valve to step in unless a given individual meets the general refund policy requirements.

    There have historically been numerous cases of developers selectively dropping support for certain platforms (officially and now much more unofficially by just blocking Proton rather having a native release to begin with). Some developers willingly gave refunds to users that played the once-supported games on said platforms. Other times, they have not, and I do not know of a single case in which Valve stepped in when developers/publishers refused/ignored.

    If there is some consumer-protection law in your jurisdiction that would apply to licensed access to media, then you may have recourse that way. Otherwise, anyone seeking a refund is unlikely to get one.

      I do not know of a single case in which Valve stepped in when developers/publishers refused/ignored.

      There was the Helldivers 2 debacle, where they retroactively wanted you to create a PSN account to continue playing the game. I’ve heard from a few people, who got a refund over it. The automatic system didn’t work though, they had to write with the steam support directly.

      This isn’t exactly platform support. But I think, if platform support was/is listed on the store page, you would have a stronger case than Helldivers 2 though, where the third party account was listed on the store page.

  It’s about surveillance not safety. Neglecting to include any detail in the article about what features of EAC they can’t enable while including Linux platforms does a serious disservice to the reader.

  After the intentional moves Ubisoft made to distance Siege from Linux I am not at all surprised. They do not want us and have made this patently clear. Fuck 'em.

    Please just block Ubisoft, EA, Activision, Bethesda from showing up on the store (there is a setting in steam).

    These ghouls do not give a fuck about our hobby. Yes you will need to skip games, yes that will at times be harder than others, but it must be done. Support indie devs; they’ve been making better games for about a decade anyway.

  My latest Ubisoft game was some Anno edition from 2010, that I still own since I got in on GOG.

  Since then, only indies for me and I’m very happy about it.
