It’s EA? that’s literally what they’ve always done. Not to mention bioware was already stripped for parts years ago and failing miserably.
"What if Larian had shut down after Divine Divinity?": Star Trek Online exec scorns publishers who close teams like BioWare in favour of "AAA veteran" start-ups and AI "magic beans"

Because publishers famously don’t know how to manage development studios well. They buy up the next hot thing, ruin it over the course of several years as they squeeze out every cent they can, then cut their losses and look for the next hot thing to buy.

Honestly how is Larian even remotely comparable to the Bioware of today/yesterday. Larian right now is about where Bioware has been when they made ME1, before all the EA enshittification chased away all the talent.

Well, that makes me feel better about the health/longevity of STO.

Alright so we’re now doing an exploration of alt history fan fiction based on a … bluesky tweet? A bleet? … from another game dev, about our escaptist virtual fantasies.
This is ‘video game journalism’, apparently.
Its very very obvious that nobody reads these outlets and takes them seriously other than AAA game developers and parasocial virtue signallers.
All of these people are unimaginably high on their own supply and incredibly out of touch.
Yeah, the holding company sold off a decade-long underperforming subdivision, after getting bought out, due to it being massively in debt, materially significantly due to said underperforming subdivision.
Wow, how surprising.
How do the sellouts not comprehend that they are in fact sellouts and have no basis to complain about any of this?
What, its impossible to make a game without a publisher or outright owner?
Obviously not.
Maybe the _ specific_ game you want to make with near infinite resources, sure, but like… where does this indignant sense of entitlement come from?
This idea that you specifically deserve to be immune to capitalism, while you knowingly engage with it on its own terms?
What, you rainbow capitalism’d so hard that you should just be… special? No, sorry, that’s not how that works, liberals.
You’d need to actually be as economically radical as you are socially progressive for people to not view you as hypocrites. Literally put your money where your mouth is, otherwise very few people ae going to actually sympathize with you.

It would have taken less time to read and understand what was being said than it would to type up this stream of consciousness rang based on assumptions and gamer rage.

It blows my mind that anyone at EA seemed to think that a famously homophobic and misogynistic regime would allow them to continue developing games that featured LGBT characters
