- Comment on Steam deck triple monitor setup with the official dock 2 weeks ago:
I think it would struggle to have the bandwidth to pull that off, but maybe if you keep the resolution and refresh rate down. And that’s assuming USB-C to USB-A would work in this case, which I don’t know the answer to.
- Comment on Audio on steamdeck with HDMI connected 4 weeks ago:
is it possible to set the steamdeck to “default” to always keep picking the steamdeck speaker as default audio out also when an HDMI is connected through the USB-C?
Some audio issues were introduced in the SteamOS 3.5 update (partly due to having to handle the OLED model around the same time) which causes the HDMI problem. Hopefully it will be fixed in SteamOS 3.6 or 3.7. I’ve found that Bazzite doesn’t have the issue, although obviously that’s an invasive change, and I understand it’s still a bit buggy with the OLED model.
how do y’all combine music and games?
I think doing what you want could be a bit technically involved. One way might be to have one device control the music, and then cast it to the deck with snapcast or similar. Then, if you can get a snapcast client on the deck to be persistently running in the background, any music that is played on the other device, will be heard on the Deck.
Or more simply, you could try pairing your Deck in bluetooth from another device, and then select that Deck as an output. This is assuming that the Deck allows this, and that your OS supports this (Pipewire on Linux definitely does).

They’re keeping the 256gb LCD for now, although that could change in the future of course.

I would expect so. It might already be on the Deck, as sometimes Valve is ahead on kernel and firmware related issues.

Guaranteed good driver support too, since Valve fund devs to work on the AMD GPU drivers on Linux.
- Comment on It's Time to Bring Back the Steam Machine 2 months ago:
I don’t think they have yet, which is a bit of a sore point. Third party alternatives like Bazzite may do the job, though.
- Comment on It's Time to Bring Back the Steam Machine 2 months ago:
I wouldn’t expect HDMI 3 given the HDMI group are openly hostile to open source implementations of HDMI 2.1
- Comment on What is your favorite Open Source Game on Steam Deck? 2 months ago:
I haven’t played it on the Deck specifically yet, although it should work fine. OpenTTD, and I’ll add Free Stars: The Ur-Quan Masters.

Usually from third party eBay and Amazon sellers. There’s a price premium, but not bad if you’re willing to wait for a sale.

Linux based with long term support + touchpads + repairability vs a generic Windows handheld.
- Comment on EmuDeck removes Yuzu And Citra emulator support 4 months ago:
They couldn’t go “well we don’t support piracy,” because their actions proved otherwise.
They could make the argument they were working on it so it would be ready by release, but yeah, taking money for it makes them a more obvious target. That and they necessarily had to have access to the game in order to work on it (or at least others had to have access to it in order to receive bug reports on it).

- Comment on Steam Deck OLED now supports HDR Remote Play from PS5, unlike PlayStation Portal 7 months ago:
If you go to ipinfo.io at home (over wifi or ethernet) and it says your ip is in the
100.64.0.0
range, then you are on a CG-NAT network. This wikipedia article may be helpful. The short answer is that we are running out of public IPv4 addresses so CG-NAT is used so a bunch of users can essentially share 1 (or a few) public IPs. From the router’s perspective, you have a public IP that is actually a private IP in the 100.64.0.0/10 range.
However, not having a real public IP means you have no way for remote devices to directly access your router, so port forwarding won’t work.
- Comment on Steam Deck OLED now supports HDR Remote Play from PS5, unlike PlayStation Portal 7 months ago:
You might be on a CG-NAT network which makes port forwarding impossible. Some ISPs will disable it if you ask (or give you an ipv6 IP which isn’t affected by the issue).
- Comment on Steam Deck OLED Plays Better Than Steam Deck LCD: Big Input Lag Reductions 8 months ago:
Most people aren’t that sensitive to it, particularly with controller rather than mouse & k/b input.
- Comment on Steam :: Steam Deck :: SteamOS 3.5.5 Update 8 months ago:
Yeah, audio in general seems to be a bit bugged. I’ve had issues with apps and games not actually using the default output/sink. Thankfully, the output they are choosing is the one I use most of the time, but it’s annoying when that’s not the case.
- Comment on Steam :: Steam Deck :: SteamOS 3.5.5 Update 8 months ago:
I’d like to see that too. There’s definitely an obvious improvement. It might even be an improvement over my own colourmeter correction, although I’ll have to re-measure it with the changes.
I wouldn’t expect it to match the OLED mind you, just because of contrast and a wider colour gamut (and HDR) but it might be enough for some.

- Comment on [News] Steam Deck OLED review: much more than a screen improvement - Polygon 8 months ago:
Dedicated bluetooth module, allowing better audio quality over bluetooth and the option to wake the steam deck from a bluetooth controller. Will also support more controllers at once for multiplayer.
Anyone know what version? It would nice if it would support LE audio since that should help with latency significantly. Not that there are many client devices that support it yet, but Pipewire at least has some initial support.
- Comment on My Steam Deck finally arrived 9 months ago:
There is no way to change the layout of physical keyboards in the gaming mode. Those settings don’t change anything in the gaming mode and but the gaming mode settings only work for the on screen keyboard.
You might be able to since
gamescope
(the compositor that the deck uses ingame mode
) supports keyboard layouts through XKB environment variables, but I’m not sure where to specify those on the deck (and it might even require write mode), - Comment on Valve: don’t expect a faster Steam Deck ‘in the next couple of years’ 10 months ago:
I think we are getting close to the Deckard being announced, the successor to the Index.
Hopefully it’s cheaper and more widely available than the Index. I’m waiting for it because I don’t want to deal with Windows anymore for anything, and VR is one of the last requirements.
- Comment on Valve: don’t expect a faster Steam Deck ‘in the next couple of years’ 10 months ago:
High refresh rates and VRR go hand to hand, so you’d still want that if you want VRR. You just limit the framerate to 60fps or lower if you don’t want the hit to battery life.

If there is a performance cost for this, hopefully it isn’t too high given the limited resources of the Deck.
