Creating two copies of a file isn’t backward compatibility. Thats what devs are doing now with webp. One webp file, and one joeg file for clients who cant render webp.
Now if you could open and view a jpeg xl file without having to upgrade your app/browser/whatever — that would be backward compatibility.

They don’t always. I’ve seen plenty of semi trucks hailing these horizontally on the highway similar to how concrete beams are hauled.

Android and iOS have made companies fortunes. But keep telling yourself Windows Phone needed to die.
Same with game consoles. Switch I & II have made Nintendo a ton of money.
These Microsoft products would have been profitable in the hands of a company that actually cared about them.
