- Comment on JPEG-XL Image Support Returns To Latest Chrome / Chromium Code 1 week ago:
Creating two copies of a file isn’t backward compatibility. Thats what devs are doing now with webp. One webp file, and one joeg file for clients who cant render webp.
Now if you could open and view a jpeg xl file without having to upgrade your app/browser/whatever — that would be backward compatibility.

Which Copilot do you get to block?
- The software formerly known as Cortana?
- The software formally known as Office?
- The software formerly known as Bing?
- The software that lets you make silly pictures of yourself as anime characters?
I’m honestly surprised Microsoft hasn’t renamed windows “Copilot” at this point.

- Comment on Logitech breaks your mouse with a software update 2 weeks ago:
On the Mac, an expired cert should prevent new installations by default, but for existing installs it shouldn’t have had any effect. Logitech did something wonky here that prevented existing driver installs from working at all.

- Comment on New reactor produces clean energy and carbon nanotubes from natural gas 4 weeks ago:
There’s nothing clean about natural gas. You have to remember how it destroys our environment as it’s pulled out of the earth.

- Comment on First highway segment in U.S. wirelessly charges electric heavy-duty truck while driving 4 weeks ago:
They don’t always. I’ve seen plenty of semi trucks hailing these horizontally on the highway similar to how concrete beams are hauled.

If you could somehow safely combine induction charging with electrical transmission lines, it would be worth it. No more lines on poles.

Android and iOS have made companies fortunes. But keep telling yourself Windows Phone needed to die.
Same with game consoles. Switch I & II have made Nintendo a ton of money.
These Microsoft products would have been profitable in the hands of a company that actually cared about them.

All the more reason to spin off their consumer products divisions rather than killing them.
- Comment on $96.5 million for Nadella | Microsoft's CEO receives record pay in a year that saw 15,000+ layoffs 2 months ago:
Microsoft would be better up split into multiple companies. They’re killing windows with lack of innovation. They’re also putting Xbox slowly out of business. They have no phone on the market and they barely have a tablet with the surface line. They also stopped making peripherals.
I think the current CEO is just trying to make Microsoft into the next lumbering IBM.

Steam OS really needs a simple to use installer with the option to automatically add a partition to an existing Windows PC. Even if you don’t dual boot, it would encourage more people to try it and wean themselves off of Windows.

That explains the recent price increase. Like the TV streamers, they know they make more money from ad revenue than subscriptions. So, they want to funnel users to the “free” tier.
