- Comment on Paradox respond to the accusation that they fix games with paid DLC - "we try to find a middle ground" 2 months ago:
The best idea seems to be incorporating old DLC into the base game at a certain point while maintaining a higher price floor for the base game. That way, you can sell a more complete base game and maintenance between different versions becomes streamlined.
- Comment on Microsoft Gaming CEO: “I think we should have a handheld, too” 6 months ago:
SteamOS is probably the biggest risk to the Windows monopoly right now, so that tracks.
- Comment on Valve has little to worry about as new Steam Deck rival arrives 6 months ago:
Yeah. I get the feeling that Valve would be more than happy for people to make competitors to the Steam Deck as long as it had the Steam store on it.

Sounds like Disney made a “just watch this slop” button.

But why?

The movie franchise got worse as the book’s author started to interfere more.
- Comment on Dakota Johnson on ‘Madame Web’ Blowback: “I’ll Never Do Anything Like It Again” 9 months ago:
Well, this is the second bad franchise she has been in.
- Comment on Linda Hamilton says she wouldn't star in a 'Terminator' reboot: 'It's been done to death' 9 months ago:
But on the flip side, we are starting to see movies getting funded on the A24 model of making cheaper movies so you can role the dice on more ideas. That isn’t even a new idea; Eisner used the “singles and doubles” strategy when he went to Disney as a way to rebuild the company’s finances.
And it seems like now is the time to take risks.
- Comment on Peak TV Is Over as 2023 Scripted Series Releases “Crash” 11 months ago:
I’m not that surprised. The multi steamer model has died and there is nothing else funding prestige TV.
- Comment on Passing on the right on a highway 1 year ago:
There are laws to enforce it, but actual enforcement is light.
As to why this is a law, it comes down to safety. It is generally safer that traffic speeds have a gradient in one direction. The left lanes are less likely to see merging of traffic and the driver is on the left side, making it easier for the driver to notice passing traffic.
- Comment on I have no access to a home printer, will a library or FedExOffice or UPS Store let me print via Bluetooth? 1 year ago:
Print to PDF and print the PDF later.
It feels like saving, but it is technically different.
- Comment on I hate that I am become this person but: are delivery drivers just allowed to call and say 'please come and meet me' now? 1 year ago:
They’re allowed to ask and you’re allowed to say no.
That said, if there is a door that you need to unlock for them, you better open it for them or let them drop it off at the door.
- Comment on Is it disrespectful to call someone instead of answering their email? 1 year ago:
It depends. For some groups of people, it isn’t considered rude to switch methods of contacting people if one person sees a need for it; this is especially prevalent with older people.
- Comment on Why is it apparently cool and fine for insurance companies to spend countless billions, trillions of our money constantly buying ad time? 1 year ago:
There are, but a lot of them usually require something to qualify for their coverage and aren’t as large as national companies. The smaller companies usually don’t have as large an appetite for risk, and will therefore only provide discounts to less risky drivers.
- Comment on Am I the only one pissed off at these holiday sales? (US) 1 year ago:
JCPenney got rid of sales years ago and went with a year round price based on the discounted price. The CEO who had the idea was later fired because the company was losing a lot of money and sales were down compared to other retailers.
The constant sales are done because the retail strategy works.
- Comment on How did money work on deep space 9? 1 year ago:
I think Sisko threatened to charge Quark for rent and utilities in one episode as a way to get Quark to do something Sisko wanted.
Quark may be billing Starfleet for his services, but I’m sure he understands how to be in the good graces of his cop landlord.
- Comment on People not from English-speaking countries, was it possible to watch cartoons in English subbed? 1 year ago:
I think it says more about the role of English in the world today.
You can travel across a large part of the world only knowing English. It is a Lingua Franca for international trade, even between two countries that don’t speak English.
And along with that, there are local dialects of English that are different an international standard. It is a lot harder to correct the use of a language learned in a community than that you learn from media and education.
