Starting today, new support threads that are created on discord will be indexed and be easily findable with search engines thanks to Answer Overflow. Right now, existing threads are being indexed.

I think this is crazily important. My biggest issue with Discord is that they have become the default hubs for issues and fixes. Over days, weeks, months and years those fixes get buried and harder to find, but the worst offender is that they are unindexable by default.
Its lovely to see someone doing this. I wish everyone would do this.
As ever, if you don’t know Heroic, you can find their website with this link here

Maybe just make a fucking forum? Jesus why did discord ever get popular in the first place?
Ulrich@feddit.org 2 months ago
It got popular because it’s excellent for gaming communities. Not for code base discussion.

Because stupid people use it, and unfortunately people using it are most.

Agreed. Discord is a chatroom not a forum.

Because you can make a Discord server with a few clicks. It’s super easy. I wish more people used things indexable by search engines too, but you really can’t deny how incredibly easy Discord is from the side of the people wanting to set up something.

You can make a lemmy community in a few clicks if you don’t want to run your own instance.

And everyone already has an account, they can just press a button to join the server and be interacting straight away.

Discord is a superb chat room with voice chat and screen share.
Most of the userbase is too young to know forums exist.
Wooki@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Because its more than a bunch of posts, its voice comms and thats more useful. So find a platform that does both and maybe people change, maybe. More likely we will have to wait for IPO and enshitification before that happens.
