I'm tired of GTA

I’m so tired of GTA.

I finished Vice City and it was great.

GTA IV didn’t click with me at all, I hated the characters and the endless busywork.

GTA V was considerably better, but I never got around to finish it, I just moved on to other things.

And now the ridiculous hype for GTA VI.

I mean I get it, it’s a very polished product, maybe the most polished game ever. But I’m just so tired of it. I like driving, I like shooting, I like adult themes and humor, but it’s the same every damn time. And it seems to get more contemporary with each iteration. I’m not from the US and I’m not that invested in whatever is happening there. GTA looks to be 110% focused on increasingly specific North American societal issues, judging from the trailer. I’m not into it, which isn’t a problem in itself, but the endless bombardment with the hype on every conceivable channel is grinding my nerves.

I know I can’t change it, just needed to vent for a minute.

Enjoy GTA VI, I’m sure it will look amazing and set standards for quality and polish. I’ll enjoy a gameplay trailer and hopefully some silence once the initial rush is over.

I’ll probably play it at some point but I’ll wait for it to be on sale unless it turns out to be absolutely fucking amazing or something. V was fun but it wasn’t life changing or anything and I felt like anything I could really do in a GTA game I’d done by then, having played them since the very first one. I recently revisited V and I was bored in about 30 minutes despite not having played it for years

Given its foundations I just don’t see what it can do that I haven’t seen already.

I dislike many games people love. It’s not that the game is bad, it just doesn’t work for me.

I loooove GTAV, but never finished the previous ones.

And what hype for VI? I’ve not seen anything about it here on Lemmy besides the occasional news.

And yes, GTA has always been a game about mocking the United States. Which… is no longer very funny at this point.

  I mean, there’s not much hype on Lemmy because this place is generally pretty counter-culture, but you’d have to live under a rock to not think GTA 6 is overhyped. From what I’ve heard, a lot of the gaming industry is trying to duck the fade and either get games out in October or December; Rockstar has scared them off trying to compete with a November release. I think the last time something like that happened was Cyberpunk, which should give you a pretty good idea as to the levels of hype GTA 6 is hitting.

Don’t think I’ve ever finished a GTA game, they’re good simulators for driving recklessly and seeing how fast you can get a 5-star wanted rating. I’m sure some people are head over heels for the story or the multiplayer. At this point Rockstar knows it’s their money printer, if they keep making it people will keep buying it.

  I had high hopes for GTA IV, especially with the character’s background. But the actual game and characters just completely fell flat for me.

I honestly wish they’d release some side stories in the form of small GTA 2 style top down 2d games.

We don’t need the latest graphics and best shit all the time. GTA1 and 2 were awesome in their own right.

I played the hell out of GTA 3… played the others, but, yeah, it’s basically the same loop with better and more involved graphics.
