Hey all,
The new Star Wars Xcom game says it’s unsupported on Deck and Machine. I know those aren’t always entirely accurate. I didn’t suppose anyone’s gotten the game and tried it have they?
I have a steam machine and it won’t even get to the shader compilation screen. Thankfully it loads fine on my desktop but that was a disappointment when I went to load it up today.
I just look to see if a game is gamepad compatible and go from there.
But plenty of games are awful with a traditional gamepad but excel using the Steam Deck’s touchpads.
With Steam Input you an play with gamepad, even if they don’t support gamepad. Either the community made a configuration you can easily download and apply, or you can create yourself one. But that is not convenient and straight forward like an official gamepad support for sure.

Liam (from GamingOnLinux) said the Steam Machine got 35-55 fps on medium, with some rough spots.
I’d imagine the Steam Deck then would be a notably bad time.

According to steamdeckhq.com/…/star-wars-zero-company-not-good… the playing on Deck is a bad time, struggles to hit 30 fps (often 18 to 22 fps in action) with lowest settings applied. I don’t know about the resolution, probably native 720p or 800p, and if he tried upscaling. But at this performance level, I do not think it will help to get stable 30 fps.

Reviews are all mentioning performance issues, even with lowered settings. Hopefully we’ll see this remedied in early old patches. I’ve been itching for an XCOM/Tactical game again and having it be Star Wars is a very unique IP for it. Excited. Hope it fixes itself by the time I buy it.

Oof yeah that’s rough. I have a work trip coming up and was hoping I could use this as a to go game but… Doesn’t look like it.
