• Comment on I've found this article about enrolling as a foreign student, and I'm concerned.:

  Be aware that the deadline for these scholarships is REALLY early, as in December/January. Your best course of action is to assume that the deadline is in October and work towards that.

  While computer data/science courses are quite competitive, they do recruit a lot of master's students to work and study in China from abroad. If you're interested in AI then you're golden, albeit said courses are pretty hefty on the math so (e.g. imagine a physics degree comparable to workload).

  1. Why are you using a private service to handle your admittance? You're better off contacting people at the Confucius Institute and try to get a scholarship through them (you have to be under 25). You're from Europe so it's a different story. There is a quota per nationality for scholarships, and thus as someone who isn't from the global south, it will be easier to get in.

  2. If you're interested in studying in China; start studying Chinese. While your Chinese will improve a lot more rapidly when in China it is still a difficult language that requires you to invest a lot of time and effort.

  3. It would help if you told us what kind of program you're interested in. Do you want to study sinology? Do you want to study engineering? What is your goal? Depending on the type of direction you want to go you might need an entirely different scholarship.

  Well yeah. Still, phosphorus can theoretically be mined though from ocean water. The problem is that with current techniques, yeah; it's not sustainable. Being able to mine it from out direct waste would be ten times better.

  The tortilla analogy was just to sketch an abstraction to what meat might become.

  How would lab-grown meat (one that doesn't make use of a biopsis) have a larger environmental impact? It's literally a cell culture to connect to a nutrient drip.

  For nitrogen-based fertilizers, the largest product group, the process starts by mixing nitrogen from the air with hydrogen from natural gas at high temperature and pressure to create ammonia. Approximately 60% of the natural gas is used as raw material, with the remainder employed to power the synthesis process.

  The ammonia is used to make nitric acid, with which it is then mixed to produce nitrate fertilizers such as ammonium nitrate (AN). Ammonia may also be mixed with liquid carbon dioxide to create urea. Both these products can be further mixed together with water to form UAN (urea ammonium nitrate) solution.

  I don't see how any of these steps couldn't be fabricated without the use of non-reneweable resources.

  Luckily we're talking about China and not the USA. Let's count our lucky stars that Capitalists don't innovate to the extent that socialists do. Otherwise, they would've already automated and enslaved the human race.

  We can produce fertilizers renewably by taking the resources for literal air and waste, the problem is that the cost of doing so is preventive. Just like we can mine e-waste for precious metals; we don't. Because recycling, just like renewable energy in the form of solar/wind, is democratic in how scalable it is. I.e. it doesn't allow for the monopolistic agglomeration of resources and thus the established capitalist class won't invest in these new technologies on their own accord.

  China wants to be resource independent so they're investing in these new fields, but it will take some time before the fruits of their labour will show (economically viable) results. These technologies are essential if we want to afford everyone the same level of development the West enjoys.

  I mean there is lab-grown meat. Once lab-grown meat gets adopted we can slowly turn away from the idea of "meat" being derived from animals and further abstract it. E.g. we could take the genetic code that allows for the creation of an animal's muscles, extract the most basic building blocks that create the texture and nutrients, change it, put that code into bacteria and literally have create a patty/slab of "meat" that has the form and thickness of a tortilla, but the flavour profile of whichever animals you can think of.

  I wish there was a transnational communist/socialist movement that allowed people to join regardless of their skin colour or creed. As long as they're socialists are willing to work towards connecting the world, using our resources to improve said world and work towards a simple set of universal values all while being disciplined in our effort. A man can dream.

  Just like how integrating into the capitalist system is a necessary evil, so is fish farming to protect our environment. I too can't wait until we can put meat/fish-based protein on people's plates without there ever having to sacrifice the life of a conscious being.

  This is the video that got me introduced (SCMP). Then I've read this article (in Chinese, but you can translate it).

  It's absolutely fascinating. This is all because China is trying to improve the health of its coastal waters and rivers, which until a few years ago were contaminated beyond what's sustainable due to their quickly developing aquaculture industry. Now they've set quotas on how many fish can be farmed to protect the carrying capacity of their waters. As a result, they've started to import a lot more fish and fish prices have increased. Ventures like these are there to alleviate that.

  The deep seas are like deserts: devoid of life. While fish farming introduces pollutants (fish excrement and left-over food) into the water that chokes up lakes/coasts/rivers, these extra nutrients cause algal blooms that kill the native fish. This issue is however entirely none existent in the deep seas as those places have such a deficit of nutrients that their pollutants will actually foster and improve the carrying capacity of the places wherever these large ships decide to anchor.

• Comment on The Fake Xinjiang Allegations Caused me to Lose my Job & Friends:

  I'm probably going to spend my time improving my Chinese and recording some stuff for SWCC to put on YouTube for people to listen to. I'm very out of my depth when it comes to socialist parties in the West. Whenever I hear about them it seems I first have to read a crash course on the many schisms and the antagonist attitudes that specific communist party has against other parties.

  I have trouble wrapping my head around all this infighting. The CPC, again, for example, is able to work together with even the most polar opposite ideology and stay amicable and be able to work towards a common purpose with that other party even if that other party has a well-documented history of white terror. Why aren't communist parties able to collaborate when 95%+ of their points align?

  TBH, I wish I knew some communist developers. It shouldn't be difficult to create a social action platform that allows for resources to accumulate transnationally. Being able to create a (vague) heat map of communist parties and their member spread would allow social movements to get kickstarted. A communist could be living across the street and I'd never know it. But if you allowed people to register themselves on a website with a non-specific location and then gave them the ability to fill-in the distance they'd be willing to travel to take part in a rally, or whatever, you'd make it much easier to organize across party lines and even tap from the community. I'm not suggesting Communist Tinder, but knowing that there are people within your vicinity that you could ally with or being made familiar with different movements/projects would be helpful, even if merely education.
