- Comment on Adding gog games to steam deck 1 day ago:
Go to Desktop Mode, run Plasma Discover, get the Heroic flatpak, run Heroic, log into GoG there, install games.
Heroic is pretty damn good at doing the rest. It’ll install the Linux or Windows version of your games, it’ll add them to Steam, it’ll run them. Heroic will even give Steam some coverart for your games. (Many are missing the logo, tho. DeckyLoader +SteamGridDB plugin fixes that.)
- Comment on Steam Deck SteamOS 3.6.10 Beta 'Tenth time's the charm' fixes some real nuisances 3 weeks ago:
Is it the same as “sometimes when I go to Desktop Mode undocked, KDE decides that I have zero screens” and I’m staring at blackness? I have to ssh in and shutdown to fix it.
Not reboot, shutdown. If I reboot, the next time I go into desktop mode I’ll get the same thing. I think there is some ring < 0 or EC shenanigans going on there.
- Comment on Valve upgrades Steam Families and Game Recording in the latest Steam Beta 3 weeks ago:
I don’t think you can opt in, the Families beta isn’t on the deck yet.
- Comment on [Game] Helldivers 2 Gets New Steam Deck Graphics Preset Alongside New Difficulty Level 4 weeks ago:
Yeah, the problem is that there is a well-set standard for VRR on a regular DP connection, there’s a so-so standard for VRR on HDMI, but there isn’t a good standard for communicating VRR through an internal connection. The market is at a standstill with not enough tablet vendors asking for VRR, and neither the SoC vendors or the panel vendors want to be the first one to build only half of the solution. Apple or Samsung could build a full solution on their own and jumpstart that market, but can’t be arsed.
- Comment on [Game] Fix For Jackbox Megapicker Corrupting Steam Decks Released - Steam Deck HQ 5 weeks ago:
The main thing that a bad actor would gain is “being kicked off of the steam store”. The bigger threat would be if Gabe figures out which is the bad actor’s main account. Losing all their games would be pretty big blowback for such an attacker.
- Comment on [Game] Fix For Jackbox Megapicker Corrupting Steam Decks Released - Steam Deck HQ 5 weeks ago:
The problem is that SteamOS doesn’t have a whole lot of boot options besides “start up directly into Game Mode successfully”. If Steam chokes while ingesting any of its config or any metadata in your library, that’s the end of it. You can hold a button to wipe everything (the Playstation solution), or you can figure out how to boot a live-iso and fix “the problem”. Not everybody has the skills to fix stuff in Linux, heck not everybody has the ability to “boot up from a usb stick and have a working keyboard, using only one USB hole”.
- Comment on What have you been playing lately? 1 month ago:
Star Stuff : which is a very cute little programming-puzzle game. Light on the programming - you are heavily boxed into there only being one correct solution.
The Farmer Was Replaced : literally “Python the game”.
Veritus : the sequel to Prodigal. It’s weaker for lacking the whole adventure side of things, and no waifus 😭.
- Comment on Dragon Age The Veilguard will be Steam Deck verified and EA app will be not required 1 month ago:
There is no guarantee that EA won’t change the deal after you’ve bought the game.
- Comment on How do you download your game on SD OLED? 1 month ago:
Ooh ooh better yet, open up a fullscreen browser with this…
- Comment on How do you download your game on SD OLED? 1 month ago:
With an OLED, staring at a fullscreen png that’s all black is the same as turning the screen off.
- Comment on AMD Frame Generation On The Steam Deck Is Here With FSR 3.1 2 months ago:
The “AI boom” means that Intel is going to take die space from the GPU and give it to an NPU. That’s how you get Windows 11®️ CoPilot™️ cetified.
- Comment on Steam deck for a TV party game emulation machine? 2 months ago:
Lol I guess they could mount the deck to show as a scoreboard.
- Comment on [Discussion] Double discussion this month, what games did you buy for your Deck during the Steam Sale, and what are you playing on Deck right now? - July 2024 2 months ago:
Frick, I’m going to have to check out Farmer Was Replaced.
- Comment on Audio on steamdeck with HDMI connected 2 months ago:
I have a monitor with awful speakers (thanks Acer), and SteamOS will dutifully switch to them instead of using its own much better speakers. I made a non-steam shortcut with this abomination to kick it back to the internal speakers.

I presume that dusty is mad about being in a country that Valve won’t ship to. It’s a perfectly fair gripe.

You should be covering up the etched glass with a screen protector.
- Comment on What demos are you playing for this edition of Steam Next Fest? 2 months ago:
Veritus, Arranger, The Last Moon, Mythmatch, Schim, On Your Tail, Pipistrello, Kitsune Tails.
- Comment on What do you use the back buttons for? 2 months ago:
In a visual novel, as another “advance text” button. In Crosscode, I have the “switch elements” arrow keys on the back buttons (you need to flip it on the fly a lot). In some games, I’ll put the B-button action on R4 (particularly when it’s a dodge-roll). If a game needs a random keyboard key out of the blue, I’ll bind it on a paddle.
- Comment on Updated AMD GPU Firmware Makes Valve's Steam Deck More Robust Against Buggy Apps 2 months ago:
I think it would come down within an entire SteamOS update. Valve should give it some time in Testing before they push it to everybody in Stable. But they have been known to yolo some really wonky builds on a Friday afternoon and leave your Deck broken all weekend.
- Comment on [Discussion] New month, new games. What are you playing on your Steam Deck? - June 2024 3 months ago:
Last month had a bunch of great indies hit, I’m still dealing with them. Finished off “Little Kitty Big City” and Cocoon. Working on “Isles of Sea & Sky” and “Dungeon & Puzzles”. Still have yet to really get into Animal Well.
- Comment on Valve Working on Video Clip Recording and Sharing in Steam Client 3 months ago:
Yep, that’s roughly what I’m seeing. If you’re playing a very light game where the battery would have lasted 7 hours, you will definitely notice the extra drain. If you’re playing a game where the battery was shooting for 3 hours, it makes very little difference.
- Comment on It Takes Two does not require EA app anymore and its Steam Deck Verified now 3 months ago:
Is it The End Of Days?
Is EA actually getting … less shitty??
- Comment on Are you using GOG games on your Steam Deck? 3 months ago:
Heroic has definitely had some brown-paper-bag releases. I’ve had to roll back and hold off on Heroic for a lot of their “major” updates.
- Comment on Valve has little to worry about as new Steam Deck rival arrives 3 months ago:
I just tried installing Bazzite on a desktop, and its installer is a hot mess. The most I could get out of it was an error screen at the end, and an unbootable OS. Grub’s config file was just an error message. I couldn’t make heads or tails of how its ostree mess was ever supposed to boot, so I moved on to Debian.
- Comment on [News] GuliKit will be releasing their Hall Effect Joystick upgrade for the OLED deck this month 3 months ago:
Kinda wish that Valve would just make hall-effect the stock part. My left stick only lasted about a year, while the Gulikit shows no signs of stopping.
- Comment on Is the difference between OLED and LCD models really that big? 4 months ago:
Oh god, the design of classic game controllers were all war crimes lol
- Comment on Battlefield V now broken on Steam Deck / Linux with EA anticheat live 5 months ago:
The more EA breaks their own shitty games, the more powerful Linux becomes

- Comment on Steam Deck OLED Undervolt Efficiency and Performance Scaling 5 months ago:
Thanks for doing the work!
When you put the results like that, with 2 to maybe 4% gains, I’m definitely going to pass on undervolting my deck. Back when I had a C2D Macbook - yeah you had to undervolt that sucker to make it usable. But I will happily leave a 4% boost on the table so that I never have to consider whether a crash came from the undervolt.
- Comment on Potential Super Cheap Charger - Ikea SJOSS 5 months ago:
The only limitation that I ever saw was - if you’re using a USB-C to USB-A cable to connect to your charger, the deck will say “charging slowly” while pulling absolutely nothing. It will only pull USB-C PD power. If you have a huge battery bank that can put out tons of 9v power on a quickcharge A socket, too bad.
